Stress

@Nic GURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRANGA!

Heard a lecture at the 99u Conference in NYC last month that said that the latest research showed that stress was actually... wait for it... a good thing. It was pretty convincing and from what I remember she showed some pretty shocking correlations between longevity, happiness, achievement in general, and physical health... and stress.

The video of the lecture I saw should be available within the month ( they're slowpokes to get that stuff edited and available ) and I'll try to post it here when I see it. She also has a book on it:

The big takeaway seemed to be that by simply changing your attitude around / perspective on stress you can use it as a driving force and motivation to excel rather than a crippling, paralyzing enemy. Easier said than done for sure, but the research she cited made a pretty impressive case for checking yourself before wrecking yourself.

@creayt very interesting take on it & very opposite my gut reaction of seeking "chillaxation"

I'm thinking people who didn't view stress as negative just didn't have much stress.

The key to stress is not focusing on it and being able to get rid of it from time to time.

@Minion-Queen Similar to my approach. I do try and use it for some productivity. I also regularly blow things up online & find firearms soothing.

Just find things to relax no matter what they are.

Same. I think a small about of stress is good. If we didn't have any for example we'd do poorly on speeches and such. But I'm not sure a lot of it is good for your health either.

After being diagnosed with high blood pressure and buying a blood pressure monitor, it turns out that playing football is the only thing that consistently lowers my pressure back to a healthy rate. So, playing football.

I'm working on my stress this weekend by taking the kids to Morocco. I find time with the family and travel do wonders for the stress.

Not all stress is bad... nor is too much stress good. You have to know your body and mind. When you feel like stress has become too much... then you take a break and listen to your mind / body. (I usually know about a week a head of time beofre I get sick).
A vacatoin day can do wonders.

I work with customers at my retail job, go to one of my favorite hangout bars/restaurants, or watch TV shows. Social interaction is a big part of it. My meds help too. But social interaction and having someone to vent to (@Nic, @Minion-Queen, @IRJ and a couple others are the primary ones) helps a ton.
