US Fears Attack by Space Pirates
Any space pirates would be immune to any defense we could muster up... there's really no point until we are technologically able to visit other life-bearing planets too.
I fear that other life-bearing plantets are too scared to visit us. Humans are too stupid still.

Life bearing plants, like plants that create civilizations?

McDonald's in Austria offers hotline to embassy
US citizens who need help in Austria can now head to their nearest branch of McDonald's, because of an agreement signed by the fast-food giant.
The embassy says any American "in distress" or whose passport has been lost or stolen can get assistance from one Austria's 194 McDonald's joints.
really - joints? lol
I still here the term used that way around St Louis
Also BBC article. No idea their usage of it.I use the term joint all the time. I just wouldn't ever use it to describe McD's... that just seemed odd to me.
joints are (to me at least) generally more of a divy like place, think low rent.
Joints can be reefer cigarettes, hip hop songs, or restaurants. Or those bendy bits on people.

Not sure where that comes from?
The better question is - are they going to replace the batteries when they get old and near useless? I'm guessing tons of people run their cars into the ground, so replacing batteries at $2000+ once every 8 or so years doesn't seem like something they will want to do.

Well, the gas kinda goes along with @Obsolesce power question... the battery would be more like the engine (not an exact comparison). I suppose a better one would be breaks. Breaks are needed typically every 4-8 years, and cost around $400 (if you don't do them yourself)... that's a long way from $2000+ for batteries.

Sarcasm?
A family's pet passed away, regardless of the stardom of the pet. The family is likely grieving.

Someone in my FB feed yesterday posted a video from their cellphone of the aftermath yesterday... I was waiting to hear more news about it.
