 I didn't realize earthquakes were this common. There were 87 yesterday along around the world. This is an interesting map And a new earthquake just popped on in Taiwan while I was looking at the map.

 @scottalanmiller I am really quite confused as to why these people are so close to the shore line. Their elevation does appear to be high enough, but it's a shore line. If a big enough wave comes in everything there would be gone.

Even that would seemingly be high enough to get them from the picture. 61ft was measured at sea which means far larger could hit land. They were expecting potentially quite a lot of water. Ended up not hitting 20ft at landfall, though. But you have to get to much higher ground than the height of the tsunami for safety.

 Exactly, which is why I was confused all those people were so close to the coast.

While I was in Panama they had, at the BioMuseo, a live map of just the region showing the earthquakes that had happened in the last two weeks (live updating.) You could see a hundred or so regional quakes. We had several, including a 5.9, while we were there.
