My Morning Summed Up
-
@scottalanmiller Play Ingress (from Google and Niantic) - it'll kill your battery pretty quickly.
-
I ran YouTube for about an hour. The final 1% took 19 minutes to kill with video running the whole time!!
-
Dude, if it's at 10%, charge the dang phone! Who cares if it doesn't "optimize the battery"?! Would you rather be stranded with a dead phone?
-
My wife is the worst for the exact opposite. The other day she asked me for a changer. I asked why and she said my phone is at 85%.........

Nothing like running a GPS based game to eat your battery. Fun to play though.

I plug my phone in when I go to bed regardless of percentage... I know I shouldn't but part of me likes to be able to grab the phone and go in the morning without having to worry if it will last me the entire day.

I bet she eats through phone batteries like crazy. There is a reason why our iPads get "like new" battery life at five or more years old!

I have the same desire but only charge from zero for exactly that reason. I want the battery to last a long time.

Because over the life of the phone I need to never be stranded, not just this one time. It's easy to always make that excuse and after just a few times suddenly you have 70% the battery life that you would have had and you are worrying about getting stranded way more often than necessary. When you need to live with a phone for a year or two or maybe more that trade off can be a really big deal.

I charge my phone at the end of every day, because while it may not be completely dead, if I go overnight without it charging, sometime first thing in the morning, it will die. To me, if my battery performance is degraded some, that's fine. Because, as you say, you can't afford to be stranded. I have a battery pack and my phone gets charged every night. Even if my battery life is significantly worse than your phone, which it probably is, I'm never stranded. FWIW YMMV

That only works if the time frame in which you don't want to be stranded is small. Mine is not. I travel and often have to go a full day without access to a charger. I need my phone to truly be mobile, not just last for the hour between office and car or whatever. I do 20 hour days away from a charger, constantly on the move, on a regular basis where my phone is really important. What you are doing would definitely leave me stranded all of the time, I use the full battery regularly. Losing even just an hour or two would have a major impact let alone losing ten hours or more.

I have an IPhone 4s that is still kicking around. I had it for 2 years myself. I would only drain the battery fully once a month. Other than that I kept it between 20 and 80%. The battery still lasts like it did when it was new. I also carry a external battery pack everywhere with me (and not one of those from SW swag they are crap). I am never without power on my cell phone. There is never an excuse to have a dead battery on your phone when you are relying on it for businesses uses.
Not arguing that it might not be the best for the battery, just that in business being disconnected during a business day is unprofessional.

Yeah thats why I never get her anything with the battery built in. I know of this battery rule you are talking about but what you really need to watch for is what the battery is made of. If it is a LiPo battery and you run it to less then %10 when the battery cells die or they get hot. Now with NiMH you can run them to 0 and they will be fine but if you are storing them they need to have somewhat of a charge in them.
Here is a site with more info on batteries then you will ever need

It is never good to get to the point that you are stranded without your device. I have 4 different USB power packs;
- PowerADD 7200 mAH SOLAR USB charger
- ativa - MOBIL IT charger
- TimeWarner promotion USB charger
- (2) USB chargers that use 18650 batteries - which I recycled out of 'dead' laptop battery packs.

Agreed. These really remove the problem @scottalanmiller discussed.

I have a battery pack but Delta just stowed it on me

I've got to fly on Saturday... I am not excited, probably one of the things I dislike the most is flying, all those people crammed into a tiny plane, ugh. At least I'm flying out of Wilkes Barre which is a nice airport.
-
After taking the train from Albany to NYC with @Minion-Queen once, I've decided that if I can spare the time, I am going to commute everywhere by train from now on. Flying isn't fun anymore. When I was younger and significantly smaller, it was a lot more fun...
