Does the old single page resume adage still hold up?
-
No I haven't gotten a single page one in years. No more than 2 though

Yeah, I can't really condense mine down to 2...I tried...it's like 2.5 for me, but I've had quite a few different jobs.

Thanks, I've only had 3 "real" jobs, or at least one related to professional IT, so that makes it much simpler.

Every job I've had has been an IT job, so I have lots to list.

So you should have a personal accomplishments section, similar to how you have work experience and education sections?
Yes. Exactly.
When @Katie looked at my resume, I had an accomplishments section for just that purpose, and she said to take it out. I had things I done in my lab and accomplished things personally that I had there but she said drop that section...so now I'm confused.
As a hiring manager, it's what I look for the most.

I removed 40 jobs to trim mine down -

I have five and to keep it that short I list no education, no cents, and take off 40+ jobs. Only keep the highlights.

I removed 40 jobs to trim mine downThere is only one I could remove at this point. Otherwise, I'll have a gap in my work history on my resume where I was working.

lol 40+ jobs - how long do you have to work a job for you to include it?

I have gaps, not a huge deal. That's common, especially with so many people espousing the "one page resume" theory which demands things like that.

Several months at least, for me. Include things that are important, leave off ones that are not. I wish that I could include everything, jobs with the state and federal governments, an Indian nation, military contractor, large chemical plant, non-profits in DC, and others that are pretty interesting and help to round me out are not included. But I have to draw the line somewhere.

Yeah, well I haven't had THAT many jobs...
