@scottalanmiller Yeah, I'm still taking courses at the local CC. This is one of the topics in my assignment this week for a class called "Effective Listening and Communication Skills".
Fun. Just taking courses or working on a degree?
-
@scottalanmiller Well, it's kind of a three pronged reason.
-
- Wife has been in nursing school for a few years now. We have been living on my income alone. I have existing student loan debt from my ITT days. So yeah.......I have to be enrolled at least part time or more to keep loans in deferment. Vicious cycle.
-
- Yes, I would like to get my Bachelor's in Business, with a focus on IT related areas, just haven't decided for sure which one yet.
-
- Besides getting more certs to stay relevant, it's the only other way I see to advance my career at all. 10 years in positions that basically evolved into help desk spots from doing admin work / networking is wearing on me a little.
-
-
Good news is that she graduated, and is actually in the process of doing her Preceptorship now prior to taking her board examination in May/June. So things are looking up.

I've taken my degrees and certs off of my CV. I've not found any benefit in career advancement with a degree. It makes it easier to find "a" job but harder to filter out bad ones and narrow in on really good ones.

Awesome, tell her congrats.

@scottalanmiller I wish more HR departments could see the light and hire someone based on their character and demonstrated abilities other than just posting the standard "Bachelor's Degree Required or Minimum X experience."
Ironically that last part is always left out when they are cycling through the cv's at some places. It's either the lack of that kills me off or the ITT era of my life!

I haven't seen her this excited in 6 years (around the time we got married). She was doing classes then and working full time. Very determined, hard working, strong-willed woman I have in my life.

I'm hoping to be done with my graduate work soon, although I have been so busy that it might not be as soon as I had been anticipating.

@bill-kindle Congrats to the wife!
HR processes do suck. Sadly seen too many bozos in HR to boot. Networking and referrals still rule the day.

Thanks for Sharing this, I have a special person in my life, at work. I have circular referenced him, asked the relevant question, conversed, and asked rephrased relevant question. Guess what - 2nd time Truth.... He is easy to spot, when it concerns a lie, he crosses his arm's - I always wondered if he knew how that made him look - like he is protecting himself. From what? When he is not, he tends to sit open looks relaxed and even may smile. I find body laguage to be a great indication of a person's mental state and I am not sure why they don't see it also? I really enjoy Ted Talk's (Truth) and thanks for sharing this one (Truth). I am 8 feet tall (lie). HE HE.
