INTJ, the rarest and best one
Is that you?
Yeah, the joke is that INTJ's are full of themselves, and therefore think theirs is the best. I'm INTJ and my wife is ESFP, which is opposite on every quadrant. We read up on the matching of that pairing in marriage and it said "this pairing is so rare as to be of only academic interest"

I have a hard time seeing you as an introvert...You're just so personable...

"I" is a surprise to me. "J" makes total sense though.
For a CM, it makes sense.

Yeah, I think I'm a good example of why introversion and social anxiety are separate issues. I've learned how to socialize well, and I'm good around people I know, but being around big crowds drains me. Part of what helped me learn how to socialize well was doing phone support for QuickBooks. A year of being on the phone 8 hours a day with strangers teaches you how to make small talk very well. The reason many introverts aren't good at socializing is because they never get any practice at it. The traditional definition of introversion vs extroversion is that introverts gain energy by being alone and extroverts gain energy by being around people.

Also Jaime and Kelly are good examples of the I/E axis being separate from the shy/talkative axis. Jaime is a shy extrovert who hates being alone. Kelly is an outgoing introvert who needs her alone time.

E vs I is about how you get energy, has no relationship to being shy, antisocial or personable. It's not the same introvert and extrovert that you are used to. In MB terms, an introvert gets their energy from being alone. An extrovert gets their energy from people. Both operate in the other space.

I'm an outgoing extrovert but, like many Es, I still need alone time from time to time. I need people 90% of the time but I need to get away and center now and then or I fall apart.
It's why I like business travel once in a while. A night or two alone in a hotel room really helps my brain reset.

Interesting. I can see that.

Yeah I know.

As a rule, I freak out if I'm not talking to someone. Ask @Minion-Queen how many times I bug her or @scottalanmiller at some crazy hour of the night because I see their up and I'm going out of my mind without someone to talk to! Since I got a gf, it's been easier. I end up talking to her right until we both fall asleep. I have been going to bed at 10 or 11PM lately as a rule! I am actually sleeping again too! I LOVE IT!
-
But the whole recharging from being around others is definitely me! But I also agree with Scott...once in a VERY RARE while, I need to get away and just be alone. But never very often or for very long. When I get depressed, I tend to become more reserved.
-
Most people aren't 100% E or I, and most of the extroverts I know need occasional down time too. Even introverts get lonely and long for company after being alone long enough

I'm usually very polar. Either I NEED to be around people, or I want to be cut off from everyone and everything. Usually it's needing to be around people. I can only think of once or twice in my life I absolutely HAD to get away...
