Well it's probably a good thing that I don't actually watch TV shows like this for their educational purposes. 😉 I'd say most people don't care- they just want a good laugh and to be entertained.

But it makes it not funny because they messed up the joke. How entertaining is any joke if you get the punch lines wrong? It's not just a technical failure, the writing itself failed.

Part of this is that you Aspie's see things so differently than the rest of the world and have a hard time imagining anything outside of your world. I live with 2 of them I know believe me. I can ignore inaccuracies and just enjoy something for the pure fun of what it was intended to be not what was said.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't turn my brain off during movies and TV.

The thing that is worst is when movies are not self consistent. What that means is that the only people who "enjoy" them are the ones who didn't actually pay attention.

I think it's exciting that IT has reached this level of popularity in society!

You don't (often) hear of physicists being unable to enjoy the ABUNDANCE of silly things in action movies etc.

It's a curse. It really is.

That's because you don't hear much about physicists.

@scottalanmiller Aw but see, I don't understand the difference so to me, the joke works because I know nothing about what they're referring to, so for me, the joke is fine because I don't know any better. Although for that joke to work on me, I would have to actually watch this show and I think it's trash so I don't watch it to begin with. But I digress.

If you don't know the reference, what makes them funny?

well the joke came from the "talking like that" line.....as in, referencing techie stuff is part of his problem with talking to women. One didn't need to know what the techie stuff meant in order to understand the joke.

I'm very inconsistent, I'll moan at a TV program where a talking dog is breaking into NASA's mainframe in order to destroy some aliens by guessing the password and I'll be yelling at the TV "Oh yeah, like NASA would use weak passwords. That's so lame" and my wife will turn to me and say "Oh, so you have no problems with talking dogs attacking aliens then? That bit's realistic for you?".

Ah, and if you know what he said, it sounds like he's not technical and just says things he doesn't understand. So not knowing what he said makes it a joke about being too technical. But being technical makes it a joke about him being a poser.

The thing that I have it "internal consistency." I'm fine with Superman, as long as the movie is completely consistent about how that happens in the fictional world. I'm fine with physics being bent, as long as they are bent consistently. I have no problem with requiring the suspension of disbelief. What I can't handle is when I care more about the fictional world than the people who made it and I can see where they were lazy or confused about their own fictional world and they are breaking their own, fictional laws that they have defined.
