Lenovo Runs Scam Contest at SpiceWorld
-
So here it is, Lenovo did a giveaway, or so they said, at SpiceWorld 2014 and they gave a run around for weeks to @Dominica who was one of their winners. They gave out the price to at least one person who won one after her, but they made her come back to see if hers was available. They gave her a run around then and for weeks have refused to answer emails. Even Spiceworks could not get them to respond.
It is very clear that the contest was a complete scam. They were hoping that a girl who won would just give up and not follow up. They wouldn't even answer emails until a PR disaster befell them. They were clearly never going to honor their obligations if it hadn't been someone with clout making an issue of it.
I have been wary of Lenovo for this kind of stuff in the past and now it plays out exactly as I had expected. Imagine if you were a customer of theirs and it was as simple as them ignoring your requests for parts or service.

Oh magically they are going to mail it overnight?? Um sure you had already done that..

Wow. That's pretty sad.

Wow, this sorta does seem sexist based too. No woman chiming in that they did receive the laptop onsite.

They haven't actually said that they did, only had a third party rep say that they "would." No shipping information has been provided.

We had wondered that. Why was a girl not given the laptop but the guy who won later given the one that she just won?

I used to like Lenovo... Added to the bad list..
-
Why did they think a person wouldn't want it?

It's possible they ran out and didn't prepare well with their supplies. Sounds too stupid to be possible but it's very possible.

So they haven't actually provided you a tracking number?

Btw, the thread isn't locked or in moderation.

Oh they knew that we wanted it. It's an amazing model. Dominica was so excited when she won it.

Nope, they were giving them out to people who won after Dominica. No idea why they told her to "come back for one" and gave them out later to other people.
She mentioned at the conference when they told her to come back and then didn't have one that she suspected one was never actually coming. That wasn't too hard to predict.

No, of course not. Since it's not been shipped yet

That's only because I escalated to Sean and Tabrez about someone locking it to protect Lenovo.

Kinda surprised they didn't anyway since they are a sponsor.

Remember to keep it Professional. Lenovo has already taken a beating today.

Policy is that sponsors are not given any preferential treatment. But there are a lot of community mods who take a strong "never say bad things about a sponsor" approach which, in turn, makes people really upset with the vendors. It does exactly the opposite of what is intended. It's the price of having public moderators without training or strict guidelines and oversight.
