the saga continues - they had a meeting today - google meets meeting , and they can't access it from outlook - my guess is that it's something similar to the above - told them to copy the url below the "link" and paste it in the web browser to see if it would go for the meeting-
anyone seen this before?
I'm assuming they click the link and either nothing happens or the browser opens and goes to a different website?
Do any links in Outlook emails work?
he wants to sync the 2 calendars - the google workplace calendar is showing correctly, outlook is not-
to answer your question, i dont know at this timeThat doesn't work well at all! IMAP and POP3 don't support it - you have to setup calendar stuff - I'm not sure there is even a way to sync Google Calendar with stand alone Outlook. I know Outlook can import ical into Outlook, but it's a one time deal - it's not a real time sync.
It's likely time to really get this customer to move to a new solution. If they demand the use of Outlook - they should run all of their email and calendars through Exchange - i.e. move to O365 or (god forbid) outlook.com (personal accounts - but they don't allow vanity domains anymore).
or move away fromOutlook itself and find some other product that solves their needs.
Start by asking - besides, using it forever, why do you use Outlook? what feature does it provide other solutions don't? (likely they've never looked so don't know.I think you can but need a plugin.

Yeah, the real question is why is he using a tool that is 1) total garbage and 2) not even a tool meant to do this job!

to answer your question, i dont know at this timeWhat does that have to do with a google meet meeting? I assume the answer is - since the appointment didn't sync to Outlook - there was nothing in Outlook for them to click - and that's the problem.
Potential easy fix for that - whoever is sending the google meet appointment send an invite to the email used by the Outlook client. Once the email invite is downloaded to Outlook - accept the meeting and it should populate the calendar - of course this won't push the information to gmail.

@Dashrender said in Any outlook guru's here?:
What does that have to do with a google meet meeting?
Right, it's just a link in the email. So presumably the email arrives or else we'd have said that. So the issue has to be that the links don't work when clicked in Outlook.

Of course they are, they are for Outlook. Outlook = flaky. That's what Outlook is. It's the one big "what is Outlook"... "it's a flaky piece of crap with little real world purpose." It doesn't solve a normal issue of any sort, it's an extra layer of problems that you add to email to ensure that email that is otherwise stable becomes slow and flaky. Literally, it seems like "being flaky" is the one and only function of Outlook (I'm not being funny, I actually mean that.)

I'm guessing that the link is being clicked on in gmail (before or after the email is delivered to outlook), the appointment is being added to the gmail calendar and the email deleted from gmail. When it's deleted from gmail - it's also deleted from Outlook via IMAP - so there's never a chance to click the email ics link in Outlook.
Or just as likely - the appointment is made by this customer in their gmail account (because they can't make a google meet meeting in Outlook) and the appointment only exists in the gmail calendar.

I know you do... I migrated my entire company away from the local Windows based Outlook client to Outlook on the Web. 6 months later our new CEO demanded that all supervisors be given local Outlook - because - it's somehow better.
Now all that said - I like the local Outlook client interface much better than the web interface - BUT I dislike all the issues that come with it, so while I could have Local Outlook - I don't! But our supervisors do.. /sigh.

Not being in the right application and not having the link is very different from the link that is there not working.

because - it's somehow better.
Because it helps to hide middle management ineptitude.
-

Middle managers always like things that make people inefficient but that can be blamed on something or someone else. That's the American employment dream.... being a manager with no purpose and no need to do anything. Slowness is someone else's problem, get paid just for breathing.

True - but we don't actually know the situation.

Well - if your example is going to be slowness - I can't give that one to you (in general) for local Outlook versus Outlook on the Web. OotW is bloody slow. Local Outlook with cached data is lightening fast.
Which of course you're going to say - you shouldn't be using O365 then
-
There is one feature in local Outlook I miss in OotW - The ability to flag an email for a specific date. OotW is limited to what you see below.
If I want to pend something out 3 weeks, I don't have that option.

the event in question is a rolling meeting every Monday the customer would like to add to his outlook calendar - it shows in google calendar everyweek, but not in outlook -
side note I already suggested he move away from using outlook and use Google Workspace as that is what everyone else in his company is doing - he said "thanks for the heads up" and than opened a ticket about this today.

This is the issue. They "can't access Google Meets" from the "email client." There seem to be one of two options to this.
-
They are SO dumb that they think that a web URL is going to use Outlook as the web browser instead of the actual web browser.
-
They have received the email instead of Outlook and when they click the link, it does not take them to the meeting.
To "access" something these are the only two logical conclusions from the statement. Either they are trying to access to or access from. Otherwise, how is Outlook even involved?

when he clicks on the meeting invite he gets an error that says "this operation failed" from outlook directly. as for which of the 2 it is, I can't be sure
I found this i was going to try -
-
@WrCombs - Maybe give this a try if you haven't already. Allows you to sync your google email/contact/calendar with outlook.
