@scottalanmiller Have you ever seen NextCloud installed successfully on a Synology?
Came across this while researching solutions. https://luvis.se/software/install-nextcloud-on-synology-dsm-6/
No, but to be fair I've never seen it unsuccessfully installed on one, either

Torrents might be the best way to share. You could set up a private tracker and have each client use that.

Or reading through again, are these documents, or large files like videos and CAD files?

Synology also has Synology Drive which would give you similar options to NextCloud. NextCloud is a little more polished in my opinion but this is quick and easy to get going. You can also use the Synology quickconnect so no need to open ports to access.

The client has it limits but it can work.

Lucidlink may work. I have not tried it yet, but looks great.
https://www.lucidlink.com/
The files are stored on cloud object storage and shown locally thru a virtual filesystem, accessed on demand with a local cache. This long video shows its capabilities and addresses some questions: https://youtu.be/hTM6b-Tk2jQ
Around 14:18 a movie is copied to the cloud while simultaneously played on another workstation while it is still not completely uploaded (bad wording, I know). The demo obviously uses high speed internet but they say they are optimized for high latency connections. Still, lots of things to check for real world usage.
Edit: Fixed URL

We have been talking about testing it with a client.
