The internet is already going nuts. @dafyre cry about HC giving a security keynote, laugh uncontrollably at the internet commentary.
I can get behind this. At SecureWorld, we had a former CIO of the WhiteHouse as one of the speakers. He was hillarious (in a good way).

This is FireEye's way of letting everyone know that this is not a serious security summit. This would be like having someone who failed at being a hacker, like Kevin Mitnick, speak at a conference or represent you. Security is not something you want to have guided by those who have failed.

I'd say it's FireEye letting everyone know that they are not a serious security company. Doesn't take someone in tech or security to know that she doesn't know about security at all.
-
Hmmm.... Fire eye has worked with HRC before during 2016 election.

Shot at KnowBe4? People occasionally bring it up. It always seemed scammy to me.

Honestly it's a decent system. I'm not convinced it works very well but it covers the "Security Training" pieces of an audit. When we implemented it at my last job we did see a marked decrease in the number of people that clicked on spam/phishing links.

KnowBe4 is solid for the masses. Seriously a helpful product.
I do agree about the entire failed hacker bit though. I am not a Mitnick fan. But KnowBe4 did it for the name to the masses.

So the only hacker you can respect is one who never got caught? in which case you'd never likely hear about them - and definitely never see them on a stage - else they might be going to jail instead.

I didn't say that. But Mitnick is not someone I respect.
I used to know couple people that I suspected were real blackhats, but I never found out for certain. Either way, what I did know about them gave me a very health respect for how much I do not know.
-
@JaredBusch They hired Mitnik for his fame, limited as it is. Personally I think it was a bad decision. That said, their product is very good at teaching users not to do stupid things, and providing training compliance documentation. Beyond that, not much.

Exactly, conceptually having hackers represent anything is its own antithesis. It would be like seeing a "famous anonymous speaker." Can't happen. Hackers aren't someone you want speaking somewhere, ever. It's just illogical and is, essentially, really poor social engineering itself.

They use him in some things. but I've not seen them have him speak at a conference. KnowBe4 puts his face on things, but AFAIK, that's it. But I've been to a conference that actually presented him as if he was an "expert speaker", which tells you volumes about what they think of their audience.

That was the first time I heard him speak, really not impressive. A little bit on how to do social engineering, badly.

The title of this thread made me chuckle, so thanks for that

Due to pressure they changed their keynote speaker

Yeah good call... Damage control at this point. Wow, just WOW.
-
@IRJ Still .... never going to live that down. FireEye burned absolutely every last shred of respectability on this one.

He is speaking at their conference this year
