Does Anyone Actually Use Conversation View Intentionally for Email

Everyone email client seems to be all about conversation views today. They practically demand it. But it seems like no one likes it. Many people use it because they are lazy, many because they think that they have to, some don't even know that normal message by message email exists any more. Whenever I have it on, messages just vanish - it seems impossible to know what is being said or that new messages have arrived. When I deal with people who use it, they seem to constantly lose emails and be totally disorganized. Is anyone intentionally using it and finding it useful?

@scottalanmiller nope, I turn conversation view off and sort by date received for every user.
Dumbest design for an email system ever.

What I find the most weird about CV is that it also seems to only show emails that you "tend to read" and hides others.
Who in the hell doesn't want a simple view to their mailbox so they can sort out the crap from the rest of the email they need?
I can understand needing a better filter, but literally just hiding emails so they aren't at all able to be found is dumb.

I recently tried without it thinking it'd be better again without it, but I quickly found myself turning it back on.

Then you've obviously not encountered an issue of "DID YOU SEE THE EMAIL I SENT YOU 3 HOURS AGO, WHERE THE HELL ARE WE AT WITH THIS" type of problem.
Conversation view is fucking dumb.

Every time you get a new email when in converstaion view, it's shown at the very top, just like normal, as it's a new email... no idea what you're talking about.

@Obsolesce Conversation View isn't just "sort my emails by the subject" but also applies "Focused Inbox" settings by default.
You can go and change the settings so it doesn't do this, but the default is "let outlook determine what I see" and it's just annoying.

Firstly, Conversation view "sorts" by date, and "groups" them by subject.
Secondly, Focused Inbox is a completely separate feature you can turn on/off separately from converstaion view...

I use it as well. I do hate focused inbox and turn that off. Like you mentioned, I never have issues finding new emails, they always appear at the top. I think the reason people don't see emails is because they have CV and have a very extensive folder system where they miss a notification there, but not because CV view.

Or they have CV turned on, and some kind of weird sorting or who knows.
I never miss new emails. Not becuase I get notifications (i usually ignore them anyways), but because just like non-conversation view, new emails always appear at the top, always, in bold "unread" text. Yes, the rest of the conversation is behind it, and is shown if you click the drop-down, but I have no idea what he's talking about. It's not like he says AT ALL, not with Outlook, not with Gmail, now in OWA, nowhere I've ever seen, not with anybody.

Yeah I always have focused Inbox off as well. Dumb as hell, and many emails that should be "focused", are not, and vice versa. I can see this being the cause of missing/not seeing emails.

I know Google is like that, but that's just a shit show of an email system. That's not specifically a conversation issue, just a Google one. I think in Exchange and Outlook that it is still "show all email" just in a confusing, painful way.

Not any that I've used. Partially because the conversation and chronology don't always line up. And partially because Google does the opposite.

Right, if you organize your mails, CV becomes a mess. Because you want current email one place and old email another, and conversations are split between all kinds of organization.

CV specifically does not work that way for me. Probably because once I'm done with an email I don't keep it in my inbox so that I stay on top of organization and what needs to be done.

There are a few people I work with that sort all emails into a like a million different folders. It's awful. Every time they need to look something up they're searching through folders like crazy. Just leave it all in one place and use the search bar at the top...
No experience with CV though, and focused was certainly a waste of programming time.
