@WrCombs This is what a lot of my friends who code for dropbox, weebly, etc strongly suggest in regards to python:
https://learnpythonthehardway.org/
I got it. It's written but it also has video/audio tutorials, etc. Pretty great.

It's very good. I wish I practiced more, I forget most of it but at the time I was very impressed with it.

I purchased the PDF of the Python3 course probably a year ago or so.

Here you go, a rundown on why Python...
I probably posted in most of those how much I hate python...
-
I started with Learn Python the Hard Way. In order to get OOP I had to do a lot of playing with it. But after that it became natural to me and now I can't imagine how it took so long for me to get.
My first real personal project was a local job web scraper that posted to Facebook. When you go through learning material you should always have a project in mind/on the back burner that you can mentally (and then actually) apply what you are learning to.

Because formatting. I don't see that as a deal breaker though.

I actually find it very valuable for beginners.

Whatever form of BASIC the TRS-80 used.
Then, when I bought Windows 95 in the fall of 95, I also bought the VB4 book and proceeded to teach myself.

This is the most important thing.
You have to have an actual goal. When I was teaching myself VB4, I had ideas but no goals.
It definitely made things slower and I did give up without learning as much as I could have at the time.

Given your age, I can only imagine you used a late model TRS80 and not the shitty model I from 1977. If I'm right, then it was "standard" Microsoft BASIC.

I'm fairly certain it was TRSDOS, but mid 80's was a long time ago....

TRSDOS was the OS name for Microsoft's BASIC on the TRS80.

after the kiddo got to bed last night I started thinking about coding a little and My future and what I want to do in IT - and I got to thinking :
Why do I want to look at Coding?
Because I want to Expand and try new things to see if I like it - I've been working with Computers/Point of sale for a year ( officially and studying/learning for at least 2.5-3 years ) It makes sense In my mind to look at other options such as Web Design (someone said something in this thread and I thought about it a little)
App building, software engineering ( i know we have a few of those guys running around here on ML) even Mark up languages like HMTL and CSS ( I dont know what careers come from those, but they're options... )
Why would I hold my self back from trying different things? (at least in mind my, Since im not exactly sure what I want to do. )
I started python, Sure.
Haven't started any projects yet, cause I dont understand Python. where as with HTML and CSS (so far) It makes sense- I put in what I want it to do and what I want to be there, and it works.
python looks like it's all math, basically up to this point.
In my mind right now - I want to try Building a website, A blog ( or something along those lines)why?
because I want to see if I can!
I want to try different things and see what works for me and if it's something I can do- ultimately.
Under that, I feel like it'd be good practice to build a website from scratch, use mark ups and add python.
You guys have said multiple times "having a goal in mind while learning is best because if you dont you'll get distracted."But how do I do that?
learning PHP as @bnrstnr said?
I've made a goal: I want to build a website this time.
Specifics on the website are still hazy, But I'm working on that.SO - How do I start?
if the answer is python, skip it. because I'm already in the classes for python. -
@WrCombs Static page, stick with HTML. Dynamic stuff, PHP with MariaDB.
Most important thing when working with dynamic web pages is sanitizing any input.
