Ouch. Thankfully this was just a test site and didn't have anything really important on it. I'm assuming I'll just have to set it back up from scratch since it was a custom ISO install of Fedora. They probably won't be able to provide login details like the canned email response claims.

Despite extensive efforts, our attempts to manually recover your cloud server were unsuccessful. Our engineering team is currently deploying new instances with the same operating system and IP and you will receive login details in a separate message. You may also deploy a backup or snapshot on a new instance with a new IP if you prefer. Our staff will be applying a two month account credit for the affected services shortly. Vultr Support Team -
@bnrstnr At least they're not trying to cover it up or claim it's still working like some other companies.

Just sharing the experience. Not sure if anybody else has encountered this yet with Vultr.

How does the restore process work?
For an existing node, you go to the backups section and click restore on the backup you want to restore.
Cannot do it from the mobile view I guess.

By the way, I had a failure at a client and used this restore process back in December.
Worked perfectly.

It's 20%. You pay based on the size of the instance.

Another option is to use configuration management software so that if something like this does happen, you can automatically have another VM spun up and configured, then restore your data to it.
But yeah, IMO it's just way easier to have a host-level backup and hit restore. The $1 is definitely worth it. It's $1, who cares if it's a test or not. It's going to cost you way more than a dollar (or a year of monthly dollars) of your time to build another one.

This is true. but many, many workloads work on the $5 plan.

Its' about half and half for us.

1 host erasure with recovery of my VM (luckier than you) plus a number of networking issues at DC level in 6 months (Amsterdam data center).
