SuperMicro only lists compatibility on that board to Fedora 23. But that's likely just because it is old.
https://www.supermicro.com/support/resources/OS/Broadwell-DE.cfm
This board also supports Windows 10 so again I don't know if the issue is actually compatibility.
Windows 10 isn't a version, though. It's a family. So like saying it supports Fedora, but not telling you which versions.

So you have to assume it supports every version. Although lower down in the list it doesn't show support for F24 so yeah there is likely an issue of some kind.

But they don't list anything after F24, so there is also a very reasonable chance that they simple stopped testing some at F23 and others at F24. But who knows.

I've used the 6C version of this board with F28 & 29.

When things are hung, can you hit Ctrl+Alt-F2 and see if you can get to a console?
Ok, let me try that!

Actually, my prev response was incorrect. I've used the 6C board on oVirt.

Spoke to SM support, they said to open a ticket & include a screenshot.

I've seen similar hangs when installing over IPMI with virtual media attached. Is that how you installing it? There are also different boot options, I don't recall exact names, but I think it's something like UEFI CD-Rom and Legacy CD-Rom, legacy usually works.

I've tried all the above options & a Live-CD, they all hang at the exact same spot!!

Just tried CentOS-7_1810, it does not get stuck!!
-
Just tried Fedora 27, no luck, same error.
-
So based on the information (and the lack of) at least SuperMicro hasn't tested beyond Fedora 23 or 24.
So expecting anything other than that to work is just wierd.
CentOS 7 was on the compatibility list as passing.

Install Fedora 23 and keep doing updates until you get to Fedora 29, or it crashes... That would give you a definitive line in the sand where you know it stops working.

I mean, yeah but seems like a huge effort when we already have a line in the sand.

Plenty of similar issues on the net from a lot of fedora installations, most of them older.
Search for
starting switch root
on the net.Or why not this, which seems to have found the issue (maybe you have the same):

Fedora 24 (recommended by SM Support) does not install, same error.

So it has to do with Fedora using kernel 4.x compare to RHEL/CentOS using kernel 3.10?
