CloudFlare Launches Privacy First DNS Service
-
Mostly known for its content management services and hosted DNS platform, Cloudflare has announced a new privacy focused DNS resolver server using the easy to remember 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 IP addresses. Cloudflare says that their service is already one of the fastest on the Internet and is working to lower latency even farther over time.
Matthew Prince of CloudFlare said: "We think it's creepy that user data is sold to advertisers and used to target consumers without their knowledge or consent. Frankly, we don't want to know what people do on the Internet - it's none of our business - and we've designed 1.1.1.1 to ensure that we, along with ISPs around the world, can't"

@scottalanmiller are you running a pi for PiHole or a vm?

Mine is a VM. If I did not have a KVM server in the house, I would run it on a pi.

Switched my stuff over. Was using OpenDNS servers but it was slow.

I use OpenDNS for basic dns content filtering for my house. Does this do basic filtering as well?

I've always hated this.

Specifically no. It is not their job.

@jaredbusch What do you use for content filtering at your house?

Pi-Hole
So Pi-hole does both ad blocking, and for example, "adult" sites?

Parental oversight.
I recently (December 2017) added a pihole, but that is for ad blocking. I added a porn list for testing prior to implementing at a client last month (March 2018).

No, doesn't block adult sites. Not looking for anything like that at home.
I'm sure you can configure it to do that with an add on or a setting (or manually, of course) but I'm just looking for blocking malicious stuff.
