connection using UDP is more stable now after I changed this setting:
It no longer keeps dropping but there is a lot of background hiss on his end, I'm not noticing this my end though.
That could be a faulty handset.

@dustinb3403 I don't think so Dustin, they are brand new and worked fine on 3CX.

Oh.. well it was an idea. I got a handset as a demo and the actual handset is buggy. Swapped it for a different one and we had no issues.

@dustinb3403 Do think he has some type of NAT issue his end...

Do I think?
I'm not a voip guru, I'd leave that to Jared or someone else with more experience to comment on.

@dustinb3403 It makes me think it's NAT related, using the defaults when creating an Extension didn't work well (constant drops, 1way calls) soon as I adjusted that NAT setting the phone is stable and calling/receiving calls apart from distortion...

Use a STUN server.
stun.stunprotocol.org is a free one.

This is the one that I use, too. Fixes so many problems.

Thanks Jared, I will check that out.
The consultant that I'm helping wants to go back to using 3CX, he doesn't like the interface of freepbx. I've explained I use freepbx and have been using it fine for over 8 months, I personally like freepbx and will continue using it, the interface is a bit dated I must admit, but that doesn't bother me. I would rather use something that has more features then something else that looks good.
This has made me more aware now that I may need to use STUN in future though.
The consultant has spoken to 3cx today and they have said they are now changing their free option so that you can continue using the PBX with 4 channels for free and will now make it where you can use their fqdn without making you have a maintenance contact. Previously they charged you after a year to continue using their fqdn with SSL cert.

@stuartjordan 3CX uses a stun setup or SBC natively. So you never see this there.

Then stop using that consultant. His job is to do what is good for your company, not to change your business around his personal interface desires!

FreePBX interface is definitely dated. But also .... why would the interface ever matter that much? But even if it did, I've used 3CX and their interface was far worse.
