Try changing your search... Try "RHCA" or "RHCE" only.
-
Or location... not all the good jobs exist where everyone may be looking.

This was more of a general comment on the demand of developers rather than administrators, but yeah, I do search a variety of terms.

Well keep in mind that "developer" refers to anyone working in an entire field. And system admin refers to less than 1% of the IT field. So in one case, you are looking at a super general title. In the other, a super specific one.

You know, I didn't think about it like that.

Overall, the world hires more IT than developers. But it hires a LOT of developers. When I worked in the enterprise, we must have been like 10:1 devs to IT. It takes very few IT people to support a LOT of developers.

DevOps Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers, and Cloud Engineers are all highly desired skillsets in my current market. It seems like almost all of the positions are looking for a balanced blend of development, systems administration, and systems engineering experience.

Much more likely to find IT/Support/Admin related job than developer job. Early developer jobs will be crappy, underpaid, almost better to freelance to get experience.
Still, what you are happier at doing will work out the best. A guy comes to mine that I started seeing post about basic classes in 2014 on twitter he started, I have followed his advancement to a full time position he started earlier this year.

Not unlike early IT jobs

This is huge. These are very different careers. You need to look at which career interests you and where you have aptitude.

aptitude
https://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/computer-test.htm Well, of the first 8 questions I was able to answer, I got them right, but since I only answered 8, I was in the 12 and below range. I guess I practice what I preach to my saxophone students. "Accuracy over speed."
