Amazon to Release Lord of the Rings Prequel Television Series
-
Amazon has acquired the rights to the Tolkien Lord of the Rings IP and will be producing a television series presumably set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to be based on the characters and world from LotR. Not a lot is known at this time.

Always taking the opportunity to stick that in there...

Amazon is weird. Not only this, but they are making more PKD stuff, a tv series version of Do Androids Dream...
It is like they only know of a single scifi author(already doing Man in the High Castle). I mean they could do Vonnegut or Heinlein and do so much with their short stories and novels.
Harrison Bergeron, Stranger in a Strange Land, I Will Fear No Evil could all be done. -

I was bored so I browsed the comments.

The best part of this announcement is this here.
To me, this means that they are working with Christopher and we will see something, likely from the Silmarillion notes (published or unpublished) that happens in the 60 years between Hobbit and Fellowship.
They will have to keep it between the two in order to bring in a wider audience.
Going back to the 1st or 2nd age stories will lose a lot of people and they could just do something without the LoTR IP attached.
