If they don't owe a duty to customers - then why does anyone?

And we as law abiding citizens have no duty to allow a business like Equifax to operate in the US!

Anyone can request it. It would be dangerous for them to ignore it because of two reasons...

                        1. It is unclear who exclusively it covers.
                        2. They can't be sure you aren't connected to a place with coverage.

In general, we're the product, not the customer. It's actually logical. They didn't loose customer data.

Now as to weather the entire line of business is an ethical thing to be doing, @Dashrender and @DustinB3403 I tend to agree that they need shut down.

And GDPR (or something like it) is coming to the US: https://iapp.org/news/a/california-passes-landmark-privacy-legislation/. It was only a matter of time imo. And this will be coming to your states soon if it doesn't happen federally before. Better get started planning so you can look amazing when it does start affecting you.

@scottalanmiller FIL couldn't understand how blocking ads made us more secure and sped up the Internet. He also didn't understand Google ads in-line with the results.

Google ads inline with results was a tough one for my users to grasp. A couple of them still think "the internet is broken" when they click those ads.
