From the article:
" The city of Yachiyo noticed the problem on April 24 and also found that the password for the camera had been altered. The city cut off the camera from its network and reported it to police, it said. The city of Ageo realized the hacking two days later.
"We had not predicted this kind of situation," said an Ageo city official. "
Really? you couldn't conceive and prepare for this type of an attack happening? First thing I do on all of my equipment that comes with a standard password is CHANGE THE FREAKING PASSWORD

Yeah and Ageo is right next to my in-laws. They live in Okegawa. Within that blue circle. It is just NW of Tokyo, 45 minutes on the train to Shinjuku Station.

Finally! The only app I really needed was to be able to create my ssh keys, that was honestly a little frustrating not being able to create ssh keys on my Chromebook. I used a raspberry pi for that. Of course, now that I think about it, the VPN my work uses has a Debian client so technically now I could go full Chromebook again, not having a Windows box would be cool.
