Sodium Update

@quixoticjustin : I notice that the Quixotic team is spending a lot of time on the ticketing end of things but the asset screen is getting little love. When will one be able to view running processes, inspect the event log, uninstall an application, etc?

Well if you go into what we sometimes call the "DeepDive" view of an asset (not the dashboard, but getting the individual machine details) you might notice that in the last release we've added the ability to view available updates and to install them. We've been keeping quiet about it as it is a major feature and we don't know how stable it is yet. We are testing it heavily to try to find issues with it. But this is a pretty major feature release for that side of things. We are running one update after another in testing right now and so far things are good, but there is a lot to test.
Event Log is quite a ways off, it requires a lot of storage and planning. Running processes we hope to have sooner than later. Uninstalling apps is complex because it has to handle a lot of operating systems and installation / uninstallation methods.
Right now, we are carefully trying to get what is there solid and useful before we expand into new features. We don't want to make the mistake of half releasing features (like the helpdesk) that then get abandoned for something newer and shinier. Everything that we do we need to have working solidly and helpdesk is still quite some way from that. We'd absolutely love to be working on the coolest, most fun features immediately, but if we don't have a solid base, no one will care. So we have to balance where we are focused very carefully.

A late night deployment just went out. Very minor one, just added a UUID generator to the Linux Agent Installers to eliminate the risk of collisions on deployment and make the deployment process a bit more robust. We've already tested and it is looking good.

And another release. We've had a very busy day.
One heck of a busy weekend. I'm burnt this morning.

Trust me these are the things that I can't wait to get working on. Personally helpdesk isn't exactly the most exciting thing to work on (just a personal preference) but it is absolutely necessary. @QuixoticJustin made some good points about the updates being rolled out but please not that that is a work in progress. There are bugs that I'm actively working on as we speak so have patience with that. Ultimately though I can't wait to spend more time devoted to that side of things than helpdesk. I'm sure it will see far more love in the near future as the helpdesk gets to a fairly solid state (at least for this phase of development).

We just pushed out a small evening update to kick off the week.

One of the bits you might notice is that the storage listings are cleaned up even further than before. We are trying to get the useless data out of there so that it is cleaner and you can really focus on the data that is actually useful.

Look for the next data collection to reflect the changes.

Good deal, looking clean so far. (slight modification to the networking information section) Will know if everything in the update worked with the next collection job.
-
And we have another release live now. Busy day around here.

You'll likely be in the clear for a little while now ;). Probably won't have anything for you to deploy for a few hours now.

Time for some snacks and coffee, then.

Bring me some! Preferably beer to coffee though.

Although I can't say I'd turn down coffee either.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I'm taking the next 2 days off from Sodium to spend time with family. There likely won't be updates during that time, if there are then it's because I tend to be a workaholic, so there might be. Just don't expect any.

I guess you can take a little time... but just remember - need the TPS cover page on your reports ... in triplicate,.. don't use red pens,.. or blue. -
Just pushed a morning release, fixed an Edge display bug.
