That's like the most basic information that should be on a webpage, and not mentioning a minimum storage requirement makes it very, very hard to find. No wonder I don't remember seeing it.

@guyinpv Look at appendix D for instructions on installing to smaller devices.

I have, and they do not list a the minimum storage required, just give you the partitioning scheme. A partitioning scheme does not equal minimum drive size. Details matter.

At least we know in this case it really is the 47.5GB that they list, but it can't be assumed.

                        Note:
Customers installing XenServer 7.0 with the new partition layout described above should
ensure they have a disk that is at least 46GB in size.

Gah, buried even worse. Why is this not listed in the minimum requirements?

@travisdh1 Technically, it's only a requirement if you use the newer partitioning scheme. One would think the installer could be intelligent enough to notify the user when they've selected a destination without enough free space.

One would think, yes. I think I tried this on a 32GB usb and had it continue on it's merry (failing) way.

It's not a minimum requirement, but a recommendation. I have a XS host with the old partition layout. it is the minimum for the new partition layout. Upgrades function just fine with the old smaller partition layout.

Are the 7.1 issues people were running into initially, solved? I want to install this at home.

@wirestyle22 Yes, there were several patches that were released since launch that addressed many issues.

Fortunately there were no issues like FreeNAS Corral 🙂

Would have helped if that were mentioned somewhere in the 42 tutorials I read before trying to update.

I found it curious that the install did not ask me where to install to. I don't know if it ignored the SD or automatically chose it, but it didn't ask.
Nor did it ask what partition type I wanted, this wasn't a question.

Guess I'm off to buy a couple 64GB SDs.....

Yeah the installer will only list usable installation targets. It irks me as well. It could easily list the targets with a title "unusable for installation"

But then again, you could very well install to a smaller partition (if you wanted. . )

I'd rather take advantage of the new hotness.

The thing is, the installer for 7.1 actually DID do something. I mean, it installed somewhere! I'm guessing that's why my SR is offline, it must have installed to the drive, but my system is booting to the SD still.
