Mastodon is the free, open source, decentralized Twitter competitor which is looking to be very interesting and a possible real competitor to Twitter's lock-in of micro-blogging.

I have been watching this and trying to get in (they had locked it down last time I checked to update their servers).

Its open for anyone to sign up, I actually just signed up.

@Minion-Queen @DustinB3403 And even if mastodon.social is closed, they would encourage you to look to any of the other instances with open registration.
I'm currently @aidan_walsh@mastadon.social, though I have been thinking of creating my own single account instance.
EDIT: Forgot to link the instances list.

It's SO popular with the press release today, I'm guessing.

Yeah I can't see this taking off or even coming close to twitter or the like.

I signed up at mastodon.cloud. Seems like the next best option, supports ipv6 too.

@Minion-Queen why don't you just have @scottalanmiller setup your own instance at grove.social (available according to GoDaddy for $199) or social.grovesocial.com or social.mangolassi.it?

They have a docker setup listed.

So we would use mastodon instead of the "What are you doing right now" Thread?

Sorry doing too many things at once. Yes I know. Debating the Social Media and Posting results for having our own server on this.

The entire thing is open to all and people will simply follow as they do on twtter, it is not like your own server will have less access to an audience than any other server
