Simple NethServer 7 ISO Installation
-
Not really a lot to see, it's very simple and uses the CentOS installer under the hood. But for those that have not done their own install, here is one that you can see in action.
-
What is it?
-
-
@Dashrender It's a magic box that is capable of doing everything a business might need.
-
Just tried it on Linode here. So far seems good, but just got the initial install done. To do it on Linode I had to change the VPS to full-virtualization rather than paravirtualization. While a little sad, I would've done that anyway to get fail2ban running.

Has anyone ever used SME Sever? http://wiki.contribs.org? Looks similar to NethServer, not as up to date of an interface it appears but I have used it at locations and it works well. It is based on CentOS.
-
@PenguinWrangler no, don't know it.
-
@scottalanmiller I suggest giving it a spin. It has a very active community. I have never posted anything in their forums and not received an answer within a 24 hour period.
-
@travisdh1 what kind of issue do you have with fail2ban?
-
@PenguinWrangler you should give a try to the NethServer Community on this
-
@alefattorini Oh I plan on it. I always like trying out new distros. Especially one that could be used in a small business environment.

Good, let me know what are your thoughts. I'm always curious on others feelings

We want the best product for small business environmentThe only major issue I noticed yesterday was the disabling of the system's default firewall without enabling the one included with NethServer immediately. Looks to be smoothwall, which is a good choice for having a firewall on many different distributions. It be better to go ahead and install smoothwall, but not disable the system default one until the NethServer firewall is enabled.

Actually, NethServer is based off SME Server:

https://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=49865.0That's the reason for the similarity.
