This isn't a topic of being forced to learn on my own time or not. This was a question of why do people choose Veeam over spx...
What is the price difference? Until the agents are completely out there. SPC offers the ability to backup physical or virtual servers. Veeam was (centrally) virtual only.
Was, but they've had the decentalized agents out for a bit just prepping them for addition to the central control.
What exactly is a decentralized agent?
You mentioned the centralized one, all that is is the existing one we talk about all the time but with central control added in.

The new Veeam Windows and Linux agents are separate products and licensing. They are new and in beta. I would never put a production environment on beta backup software. It's too new. Id rather go with a vendor who's already both physical and virtual in the same product naturally, if you know what I mean

Are you saying the endpoint protection is basically just an agent?

New, but out for a year or more. It's the central control that is new. The Windows agent, for example, people have had in use for quite some time.

Basically? It is an agent. Endpoint Protection is the name of Veeam's agent-based backup system.

The Linux agent lagged behind a bit, but the Windows Agent is already on version 1.5...

It's time for Scott's next lesson of the day. What makes an agent and agent versus locally installed software that's not remotely managed.

It's all an agent. If you install it, it's an agent. That's what you are installing... the agent.

The "old" Veeam product installs nothing into the OS, therefore "agentless".

I cannot believe I just read the last few posts.

You should start a thread on SW called "I Can't Even" and post it there.

Laugh a little.
