Does the router he has offer the capabilities he'd need for this? I've never used anything from T-Mobile so I have no idea..
I have no clue, but for $60 you get something awesome.
It's an Asus router -- AC-68U -- which has been DD-WRT disabled by T-Mobile. I have and can purchase other routers. I want to run the Tmobile router on the home network becasue its tuned for wi-fi calling. Not essential to keep if I can't use it. I'd heard the Ubiquiti router was a good one. My other router is an ASUS TM-AC1900

@jeffepops well DD-WRT disabled is odd.... but that should be able to do what is required.
How or why you had to mention DD-WRT disabled I find as odd..... It makes me think T-Mobile is doing something fishy.

@DustinB3403 No, but it has a small home theater system with a roku box. It's much more stable with a wired connection.

@jeffepops I would buy an edge router and if you only need one port going to the wired Jack in that room you don't need anything else. Yes this is something that you could do very easily

@DustinB3403 Not sure. The router improved quality of wi-fi calls, but I guess t-mobile doesn't want anyone reconfiguring it.

It likely has QoS enabled by default, which isn't anything special. DD-WRT is an open source router OS which often provides a lot of functionality.
But at the same time, adds complexity that you don't need.

Ubiquiti ER-X and nothing else and less you need more than four ethernet ports for the entire house.

@JaredBusch Thanks. I don't want to assume, so do you think an intelligent person can configure the Ubiquiti using its on line tutorial/manual? AS I mentioned earlier, I could pay someone, but would like the challenge of figuring it out.

Yeah the equipment is easy to configure, plus you have Mangolassi, where you ask for guidance for free.

With that line of equipment, you upgrade the firmware, run the first run wizard, confirm everything works, then begin to customize for the features you need.

To bring a single line over to the guest room you would simply remove eth3 from the switch that the wizard sets up and then give it its own network address add some basic firewall rules and you are done.

What about wireless? An ER – X solution has no wireless natively.
