Some people here use the varidesk solution that was pictured. Apparently, it's pretty good.

Before I got th emonitor shelf I currently have On my desk, I used the D& 4th edition books for a similar purpose. Was the only good use those books ever had.

This is what I use. I have a 31" and a 27" monitor on the 36" model.
