Replacement External Hard drive Adapter
-
Appears mine Portable USB hard drive adapter has died,.. it happens with use and age I suppose. So I am looking for a replacement that has good reviews and function. As I look through NewEGG, Amazon and such - Does anyone happen to have one they like?

This looks like it covers everything:

Compatible Systems: Windows XP/Vista/7/ 8/10 (32bit and 64bit); Mac OS 10.X (OTB mode isn't applicable for W8 and Mac) SuperSpeed USB 3.0 supports transfer rates of up to 5Gbps - The actual transmission speed is limited by the setting of the device connected; Downwards compatible with USB 1.1/2.0. Simple, reliable and stable; Plug and play, hot swap; One Touch Backup function; On/Off Switch for HDD protection

@gjacobse I like the proper docks better but hell yes - we have.... a half dozen?! of them in the office. Useful. Very useful.
-
Do you mean a USB dock or an actual enclosure? I have a Thermaltake dock at home (not sure if mine has hot swap, had it for a while), works great. At work, I have a SIIG dock, which works fine, but after just a year, the fans are crazy loud (must get replacements soon)

Stay away from the Rosewill stuff. I had 3 of their USB -> IDE/SATA units, they worked well enough, but the build quality was terrible.

Got a dual-slot (IB-120CL-U3) one on my desk, better than most cheap "cables"/adapters: http://raidsonic.de/products/external_cases/hdd_ssd_docking/index_en.php
