Now people are claiming that only tech people need to know HTML. We used to teach that to middle schoolers when I worked in a K12. It was part of "understanding computers".
I learned HTML and BASIC in middle school.
When I taught middle school we taught it. And we learned BASIC in elementary.

At least they need to know that it exists and what it does for them.
Apparently being aware of markup tags is questioned as some kind of advanced tech wizardry now.
I definitely don't consider it tech wizardery.. but I'm not yet of the opinion that it's in IT's domain either.
No, it's basic literacy and everyone, even non-IT people, should know it.
You're younger than me (though only a year or two) - your school taught it, mine did not.
HTML didn't exist when I was in school. It was taught when I was a teacher.

Yeah somewhere around there.

Yes, so bad I'm not even using a proper Picard facepalm.

Of course, point out that people are wasting money and to attempt to shut you down, they say that not everyone can have unlimited budgets. Um... I was talking about how they were wasting money. Then they call me condescending for having been attacked.

The degree of unprofessional and unkind is just insane. Why does that community engender such malice and hatred of IT and people? I just don't get it.
I know, I know, stop posting to those people.

Several people on SW claiming that MS Delivery Optimization doesn't really exist and that WSUS is the only means to optimize patching in Windows 10. A bold claim, indeed.

I had marked some things for moderation and they immediately got "okay'd." So I emailed in to the real mods and asked if they had actually seen the flags or if they had been silenced by the "in crowd" before they could see them. I just wanted to make sure that there were eyes on the thread. The real SW mods stepped in and got things cleaned up. I feel much better. I don't think that they were aware. It was a mod doing the bullying, so my guess was that he had friends to make sure he didn't get moderated before anyone in charge could see. I hadn't realized he was a mod until I looked to verify, I might have not noticed and thought that someone had seen it. Glad that I paid attention, not the first time the mods have been their own problem. I doubt that he approved the post personally, but it's a clique (that I had mentioned) and tends to be self protective.
So at the moment, pretty happy with how it turned out.

I love the infighting logic that was used, though. Half the people were attacking me based on "SMB are almost always large and have deep pockets." And people acted like I was nuts for thinking most SMBs were small and had tight budgets. Then I was immediately attacked as being unable to understand the real world because I was used to unlimited budgets and big metro areas. How can it be both? People will say ANYTHING when they realize that they are wrong and have no reasoning behind it.
-
Looks like part of the issue was basic English, now the guy that attacked me is trying to claim ignorance of the word "blocked." Problem is, there is no way to respond to someone feigning ignorance of basic English, or of the product in question, without coming across as condescending. Basically, he's playing the "dumb card", which doesn't do him any favours, but what do you do? It makes you sound like you are trying to be superior if he makes you manspain basic words.

More unRAID users? WTH is going on? Where are these people coming from, why are people suddenly starting to use this weird product?

Maybe, I wonder where. The company's website doesn't look like they have any money for that, or staff. I've never seen an add. Only SW users suddenly using it.

And the award for "Just How Bad Can IT Thinking Get" goes to this article. Just to make things more awesome, it turns out that the mod that tried to bully me yesterday claiming I didn't have real world experience - has never even used wifi before. This guy is so out of touch with reality, he's not even aware of the last few decades of networking! Ths is insane. These people actually have jobs?
