What ever can I do to sell this 12 year old MAC with a linux desktop on it for $50 bucks or so?
Just because you don't use Gnome doesn't mean its a dead Desktop.
The developers of it marked it for death a short while ago. We had a long discussion on it here on ML.
Really? I thought Ubuntu was going back to gnome officially after discarding Unity. Weird
Ubuntu rarely does things that aren't weird.
Fair

That still doesn't mean it's a dead Desktop. Barely anyone here at least cares to using Gnome 3 in the first place.
-
And to be fair, Ubuntu chose Unity, and it promptly died

It's definitely not dead. It's just struggling to get developer support for the core platform rather than flashy features. It needs a corporate sponsor.

So now they are doing the same thing with Gnome?

I can't even think of what a "flashy" feature is. The desktop experience its self is the entire feature. . . isn't it?

This is going to be rough...
Physical Windows cluster?

Some people...
Key takeaway here is to not use Ninja Recruiting based on crazy and obnoxious hiring principals.
My response:
I thought they are supposed to hire based on job related reasons... not who you use for personal email, color of car you drive...
-
@tim_g What does "port their emails into a new address" mean?

I'm guessing she means switch email providers... if you have hotmail, she won't hire you until you switch to gmail.

These aren't protected classes and are thus legal reasons to choose to hire or not. . . .

This reminds me of a post I saw almost a year ago in which a guy said he throws away half of the resumes he receives because he doesn't want unlucky people working in his department.

Lol... how does he determine who's lucky or not?

Well, actually for a technical job.. use of personal email can be very telling. If I was hiring for IT, and someone was using a Yahoo.com account, I would bin their app in a second. But any of the rest, nah, I know of no issues with Hotmail, or AOL or Outlook.com or Gmail, etc.
Assuming she was demanding that you setup a vanity domain for yourself, that's ridiculous.

Sure they are, and she's within her privilege to do so. But knowing she does this tells me loads about her and her company... and knows I don't want anything to do with them.

Yeah, I gave a real reason for Yahoo... but she gives none, and I have the feeling her reasons are "because gmail looks cool", but not for any real reasons. I'm curious to know why she feels people who use hotmail or aol (who knows what others she doesn't think are cool enough) for their personal email don't deserve a job?

If you aren't thrown away, you're lucky. If you get thrown away, you are not.

But even moreso, I'd never work with a recruiter, or any company, that uses Gmail. If they don't have their own domain, they aren't a real business. Now for personal things, sure. But she thinks having her INTERNS on Gmail is okay? How embarrassing!
