Hosted SW helpdesk is down?
-
I'm in, seems fine from here.
-
Well some of us can get in now, b ut not everyone.
-
I didn't know SW did their own hosted solution.
That's news to me.
-
I'm in. It took me a couple of tries, which is more than it ever has before.

I wondered why they had such a large number of servers for the amount of people they had in the HQ when I did the tour before last years SpiceWorld.

There was a tour of NTG HQ?!

I never looked for it, just assumed it was a freemium software. . .

They host the site out of their HQ so that's all of the site stuff and their site design is crazy slow so they use literally racks of servers to host what ML does on a VM. That was a design decision that they made. A very costly one.
They also host part of the SW on premises product from that data center, so that is a TON of their compute capacity that goes for something that you never see.
Their hosted SW Helpdesk is likely much newer than your tour and a trivial part of their datacenter.
They also have a lot of their datacenter dedicated to their Hadoop Business Intelligence clusters. Remember that they get butt loads of data from every SW install and that all has to be collected and processed so that's way more capacity than any normal SMB would use right there.

Nope, it's free. Just not as full features as their regular. If you want full hosting you need someone like those NTG guys who have offered full hosted SW for years.
-
@scottalanmiller Why doesn't NTG host their own SW installation?

Why would we? Requires a Windows license to do that, that's not cheap. Why waste the money?

IDK. Just seems odd that you would host for others but not yourself. Figured you probably had a DC license so there wouldn't be any additional cost.

We host FULL SW for others, we don't use the full product because we don't want our data harvested and we can't use it for our customers because of that reason so that's useless. As an MSP, we would have to disclose so many security problems to customers if we were to deploy that as a standard tool (if the customer requests it, that's totally different.) We use SW Helpdesk, not SW. SW Helpdesk is hosted for free. SW itself is expensive to host and the security concern.

No, it's a real thing. Needing a Windows Server license for SW is $800 if we host on premises (which we could do on the Scale HC3 easily enough) or like $100/mo if we go on Vultr. That's a shit tonne of money to spend just to say that we hosted ourselves.

Right. It has nothing to do with data mining on user accounts...

But what about after 8 months?
