Huh - how it sneaks up on us.. sigh not likely I'll get my passport before then at this point... Haven't had the time to get it dealt with.I got mine in under four weeks just a few weeks ago.
Your's was a renewal... mine will most likely be a full on new setup. My original passport expired twenty years ago.
Takes roughly the same time, though.

Also you can pay to get it expedited.

Is that true? I thought it was only for NYers who opt for the lesser license instead of the EDL. I thought if you got the EDL, which basically they all do, that the passport would not be needed.

The passport will only be required if you want to go to a country other than Canada (AFAIK)

Everyone gets the EDL? That hasn't been my experience. I wonder if there are any stats on that. But yes, NYers who opt for the standard will need a passport to fly. I think NYS should get rid of the standard license and just issue the EDL.

Everyone I know that would ever get on a plane has one. I see no problem with the dual system now, everyone has the EDL option. It's your own fault if you opt to not have one. How silly to live in NY and not get the EDL.

No, it's all flights as the NY non-EDL will not qualify for flight check.

I just carry my passport with me. Not worth the extra cost of the EDL when I have to have a passport too.
