Wrapping up the week with a server outage. Yay.
I'll take a server outage all day over the thirty minute ticket beating... like really?? You expect a ticket to be closed the SAME DAY as it's opened... on EVERY Ticket??
Better hire more people.

Mistakes were made Friday when I left work - I didn't grab my laptop charger, but I grabbed my Laptop with a full battery.. After a weekend of helping with 10 minute calls / etc - I woke up to about 2" of snow - a van that doesn't drive well on dry streets- I'm not comfortable driving it 30 minutes across town in snow plus not being able to leave the neighborhood, and not enough gas in the "safer vehicle" from running around for everyone while they were out of town.
Opted to work from home today noticed laptop was down to 50% and thought I should plug it in... Oh well. Lesson learned I suppose - always grab the charger.

And people think I'm crazy when I talk about why I don't like employees using laptops in lieu of having an always there home office. This simple stuff that we all do.

Mistakes Happen, I'll just have to make the best of it or use more sick time.

Yup, that's specifically why I don't like relying on laptops, mistakes do happen and having employees depending on a single laptop, that has to travel (which is risky), and needs extra parts to go with it (also risky) instead of two desktops that don't move (or a desktop at one and a laptop at the other that rarely moves) doesn't take into account mistakes, theft, accidents, etc. Accepting that mistakes are normal, I think it makes laptops a lot less an ideal solution than people assume because most people treat the comparison as if both have no mistakes.

or a potentially much cheaper option - assign the employee 2-3 charges - one for desk at work (often a docking setup of some type), one for home - and it stays there - and one for the travel bag.
-
@dashrender till said employee leave one on desk and the one in there travel bag in conf room and no idea where they put the one we tod them to leave at home (Then calls me asking for what to do at home without a charger)

You can only fix so much stupid...
Very few people I know have a dedicated space for a home computer these days - they pull out the laptop and set it up when they need it - if you send a home computer home with them... they might end up hating the requirement of a permanent fixture for it.

Yeah, that's another reason I like to push for that. It's only a trend but the kind of people I'd want to hire are the kind of people who would have a home work space. People who have initiative, do things on their own, don't solely do work type stuff when at the office as something that they don't like to do. I want someone passionate about their work, and those people almost always have home offices or some kind of good work space.

Laptop officially died. Clocked out, waiting on my boss to call me back so I can explain.

Heh.. The State sent people home,.. when they started coming back in rotation or full time - had a user come in and their external devices didn't work.... Turns out,.. someone snatched the power supply from her dock setup. ..
Agency was charged to replace it.

I should add - I forgot my charger a few months back. I was lucky enough that the laptop was USB-C and I had a USB-C cable and supply at home. it was a fifty power power supply - but it let me run all day regardless...
Why fifty pounds? It's a portable battery / inverter ...
