@black3dynamite I freaking love chocolatey.
Not to get off on a rant, but I was actually accused by my boss of plagiarism in my script.
I had a small commented out section from Chocolatey because I decided not to use it. My boss checked out all 300 lines of my Powershell script and told me why did I copy my script from Chocolatey.
Lmao...I hand wrote the entire damn thing, she read my commented out section (three lines) from chocolatey, checked out the website for probably 2 seconds and determined I used a script on their site.
Gee, didn't know their site has scripts for completely installing all the software we need to create a web server.Hell I don't even think Chocolatey has scripts available for downloading.
It was a mess and really f*cked up.
Yay...being the new guy of (2 months at the time) three months. So what if you did? Is she saying that using code from GitHub is bad form or plagiarism?
-
@Dashrender I wish I knew, I was so taken aback by the whole ordeal that I was literally speechless for a good minute.
I mean talk about a random and unexpected spout of bulls**t.
And she went on to say that I am not to download third party software for use in my script. Didn't think Chocolatey qualified, especially since I can very easily put a line at the end of the script to remove it.
(Chocolatey just didn't have the software we needed, understandably and I really didn't expect it to, it was just awesome discovering it for the first time. This was very recent too, maybe over a month ago.) -

What ever happened to working smarter, not harder?
And what's wrong with third party software? Are we just making shit up now just so you can look all high and mighty? WTF? -

I don't think she likes me, since I started, she actively tries to find any small mistake I make and report it. I've been here three months and they already put me on some, "Coaching 'Program'", which is bullshit, it's just them going over things I supposedly need to work on.
Ok like her and my other supervisor claim I do not work with my teammates enough or communicate with them...not true, I just haven't needed help with a simple little Powershell script...So now I ask my coworkers in an email stupid questions just to satisfy their want for me to collaborate, despite me being tasked soley on this project..."Project".I mean ffs it's a script, I literally had it done in 6 hours, then they wanted more added on every few days or so. Ridiculous.
Oh and get this, I have nothing to do, Monday I tested the last addition they requested me to add on the script using Fiddler (I installed a super old ISAPI Module that converts the X-Forwarded-For to the Client-IP Column in the IIS logs). But yeah, since Monday, I've been doing nothing.
They said I can't watch videos (despite literally everyone having three monitors with one of them playing a video, but because I'm on probation, I guess I have to follow the rules.)
I'm seldom on my phone, maybe once a half hour (I think that's seldom probably haha), but I've been told I'm on it "Everytime I walk by" according to this same boss, which is absolutely untrue. So yeah, it's been Spiceworks and Mango lol.

Can you not do those sites on your computer at work?
-
@Dashrender Well by training program, we just have a meeting every two weeks, just the boss, supervisor and me.
is that what you meant?
-
@Dashrender Oh you mean Spiceworks and Mango? They haven't said anything yet.
OH another thing, they only bring up things I supposedly do wrong for weeks until our stupid little meeting for "Coaching"
-
Don’t judge me dog, it’s been one of those days.
-
Got a 911 call from a HUGE site that has taken over all PCI Compliance/Credit Card processing issues/situations.
Well It's still my software and the sites still call me- I do not have a log in to these sites in any way - No creds to log in to the Domain / or Server that runs aloha. -
our sales man just came back and asked my boss if windows 10 needed to be 64 bit or 32 bit - i about spit out my coffee.

Doing some testing for potentially moving some Apache / PHP / MariaDB apps from CentOS 7 to Fedora 30. I keep reading good things about Fedora 30 around these parts, and since there are no specific requirements for an ancient OS, I figured it would be worth a look. They also require PHP 7, which comes OOB with Fedora 30, so I don't have to setup / rely upon 3rd party repositories. Simpler setup and more recent everything for the win!

I will be blunt... after reading that, I would be brushing off my resume and starting the job hunt again.

I consider this a "rule" for dropping CentOS. The idea and value of CentOS are exclusive to when you don't add third party repos. Once you do that, you are "recreating Fedora" ad hoc and not getting the value or purpose of CentOS, nor the value or purpose of Fedora. It's a middle ground that, to me, makes no sense, the worst of both, benefits of neither.

Bring THAT up for reverse coaching.
"Um, you aren't correcting me at the time so that I can learn, to cause more issues and slow my development? You are failing at coaching/management.... neither working to get better results immediately, nor to encourage personal growth."
-
@scottalanmiller I will definitely do this. It's absolutely ridiculous. We have these meetings every two weeks, we'll have our third one supposedly next week.
If they bring up another "mistake" I will absolutely say something. (one example of a mistake, I didn't hit reply all on an email...The email was regarding this script project I just wrapped up and I had a specific question only my boss could answer lol...It's just silliness. I look forward to someday climbing up not having to deal with this sort of micro management like my coworkers.) -
And I apologize to everyone for venting and veering this overall question/topic off the rails.
Right now I'm working on a new project I've been tasked with: Creating several scripts, one for setting default credentials for all IIS Sites, another for setting up application pools, another for websites, another for application setup, another for shared configuration.
Since this project is so simple, I'm thinking about creating a Powershell GUI for the scripts. (and also asking if I can just combine them all...Though I think I'll make them all separate as requested and then just make the one with the GUI)
So finally, after two weeks of literally doing nothing, I have work.

I feel your paint a bit. When I started at my current job, I did nothing but tinker for the first six months I was here. I didn't even get access to the helpdesk until after that time was over. It was bad... but I did get to learn PowerShell, so that was a plus.

No worries. This thread is a good place to come vent.
Also, they purposely made the decision to let threads take their own course. Lots of threads weave through topics like a quilt. Not ideal to find the thing you said 2 years ago I'll grant you, but also allows a better exchange of information.
-
@travisdh1 Oh ok good to know, I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers.

Also, this is the "junk closet" thread... If you want to be able to find something in two more years, just make a new thread for it and tag it as "RANT" or something.
