So, how long does it take to to sync 8.8TB of backup files to an (almost) identical NAS each with 4Gb/s of bonded network interfaces?
 
Well, so far, longer than expected... might have something to do with the degraded RAID array

Bonding doesn't necessarily speed up transfers for a single connection (unless the protocol is designed for it). It's more to give more bandwidth for multiple connections.

How big are the individual files? 4Gb/s bonded generally has a lot of inefficiencies so is often unable to peak over 3.2Gb/s and you need a very special case to get there. Bonding isn't all that efficient.

Are you hitting network saturation, though, or do you have an IOPS issue?
