His job is apparently "tidying cables" and "installing unneeded antivirus".
Detection rates aren't the best, though. The question is, "Is the built-in Windows Defender capable enough to block real threats"?

It's not bad. And he didn't propose an alternative, only that MS tools weren't good enough, whatever that means. He doesn't have a problem with them using Windows desktops, but doesn't trust his vendor? That's not a good combination.
Defender is definitely good enough for most small businesses, detection rates are not great for anyone and what actually matters is good system design, other security measures, proper user management, and training.

The oddest thing is he still hasn't responded. Seems like this would be a good time to justify/explain your comments and save some face. Or someone might send that thread to that users CEO.
He finally did and clarified some things.
That must be a rough situation to be in.
It feels fishy. He had to change the title significantly to make it make sense. He started off claiming he was a system admin. Then when clearly it didn't fit his story, he changed it to "head of IT".
That's like saying you were hired as a mechanic. Then when you claimed you should be in charge, changing your story to claim you were the manager. It doesn't add up and it's not a natural mistake to make - claiming yourself to be a technical employee, then after getting busted, claiming that you were, in fact, the manager instead.
This is where I'm at.... Seems like he's padding something or trying to cover himself.

Right. If he was the head of IT, seems like he'd have mentioned that the first time instead of giving a clearly made up title that doesn't reflect his real role or any role he claims at all. That he thinks that's what a system admin is would be another problem. Nothing like your "Head of IT" not even knowing IT roles.

Just realized there are thousands of free books on Google that one can just read online or save as epub/pdf. There are even some linux books, mostly the RedBooks series.
Now to find some good ones, fiction and work related. -

There seems to be a new trend in using Hyper-V and Windows Server completely interchangeably. Not the first post this week where someone did this. The other one, I don't think we ever learned what they meant.

Ugh, I wish.
Can't wait for Monday...first batch of UBNT gear will arrive. Ordered a bunch of fibre cables from fs.com earlier this week. Munich to Hamburg in 18 hours via UPS standard.
