I switched from State Farm to Amica a while back. Haven't looked back.
I'm getting ready to switch from State Farm. They've been jacking my rates up every 6 months for the last 3 years... and I go back down to the local office and fuss, and they fix it again... I'm getting tired of that.
it seems like a ton of industries do that these days
I could handle a $5 raise in price... Costs, go up, I get it. But when you make significant jumps, like $50 (that's a 25% jump in my bill!), I'm not going to let that slide. And that's been the size of the increases the last year.
We added a vehicle and the cost went up 15$. Went to renew this week and it shot up 77$. Going to be looking for a different company.

I have farmers and they have been doing the same thing to me too. I fuss, but it doesn't do any good. They say that it is a state wide increase. I'm considering other options.

Yepp... and then start the process over with the new insurance company. it's so stupid. But I have a fixed budget, and if your price goes outside that budget, guess what happens.

Do they though? I understand inflation - but isn't that the real root of costs going up? Assuming nothing else changes, ie no new features...

Cable is horrible, my rate jumped nearly 50% last year... I finally killed it..
but my internet usage climbed so much I had to upgrade my package for more download. -

I am a little jaded about insurance companies. The Law firm I worked at for 7 years represented insurance companies and they will weasel out of anything they can. They are not in business to pay claims but deny them, sure some should be denied but others that shouldn't get caught up in it. Then they pay firms like the one I worked at to battle you in court. They can afford the cost, most people can't.

Yup, this is why I don't insure anything I can get away with not insuring. The concept of insurance is a scam.

Insurance is 100% a scam. I like the idea of a protection pool but the way it's implemented for vehicles and homes is most definitely not the that.

That's why the government forces it for cars, because they are in on the scam, same as health care. Otherwise, we'd be allowed to self insure if having protection was the actual requirement. (You CAN self insure, but it's unreasonably difficult and makes no sense.)

Actually, I'll disagree with you here - I think ISPs should completely change to a charge per byte model. Pay for what you use.
As I understand it, the only reason we had unlimited for so long was because of "over buildout" of the infrastructure in the 90's. After the .com crash, ISPs found themselves with so much headroom, it cost them nothing to open the pipe and call it unlimited. But then along came things like Netflix and Youtube. Suddenly they the ISPs see a massive uptick in the usage of their network (and this probably starts driving a huge change in peering payments).
The ISPs were still making enough money through the 2000's to cover the increase in costs from this increased traffic without, but, well it's getting to near 10 years since they installed all of that equipment pre .Com bust and it's getting to be needing replacement. Plus the ISPs are probably seeing a steady or faster increase in usage demand, so they have to consider growing the network as well.
So ISPs want to change they way they are making money, because unlike the late 90's and early 2000 where demand was low and supply was high, we have now inversed... and that almost always causes prices to increase if not explode.
Sadly, unlike some (getting to be fewer and fewer) industries, it's a practical monopoly (duopoly in some cases), so the market can't really fix this problem by new people/businesses entering the scene to keep costs down.

That's why I finally switched from Nationwide. They increased it another $400 and blamed it on a blanket increase across the US, and more so in California.
That's when I immediately looked elsewhere and saved $1100 over 6 months.

Progressive has been great with me, I am paying same rate with probably 5 to 10 dollars up from when I started 8 years ago. not bad. -

Progressive just did the rate hike business with us. We're going to start looking at a different provider.

Do you have home insurance with it bundled up?
