Wondering what's with everyone thinking they need to buy a SAN now. I guess it's the trendy thing now.
From what I've read they are often setup incorrectly.
Since they normally are selected when they aren't appropriate to use, incorrectly set up is pretty much a given.

Yep and there a ton of thread popping up over there with people wanting to buy/implement one to do virtualization for 2-3 servers as well as people recommending it. which makes a single point of failure.
I can't tell if people just hate the users there and are trolling or if they are getting kickbacks from vendors or what.

It's IT's version of natural selection / darwin award. Shhhh let it happen

Maybe. Consider they are also telling people that double NATing is a security pratice. It keep your ISP out of your network as well as provides two firewalls to break through.
And That PH.D's are good for IT Jobs

Just did 33 hrs with regular usage on my LG G3 phone, stock battery... fairly impressed. I could get only ~20-24 hours on my Note 2 with stock battery.

@coliver Is that the one that is the same as the Nexus5? If so, you're a wizard and I want to have your powers. I can't get more than a day out of mine.

No this is the big brother of that I think. 5.5" screen and better resolution. The screen is gorgeous even when the brightness is turned all the way down. I do a lot of feedly RSS reading, PDFs, and some games.

I'm wondering this as well. three of four people including new people as well as a spiceworks employee recommended a SAN in this one. Kickbacks from vendors would not surprise me. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/858034-35-000-burning-a-hole-in-my-pocket

Not sure why a DR site wasn't the first thing on everyone's list. It could easily be done for that amount of money at a colo site. Although then some of that money wouldn't be for hardware so I may be off base here.

I honestly can't tell if that employee was joking and thinking that people would get the joke (bad idea, people really don't understand when people are joking) or is actually thinking that the worst possible idea is what should be recommended. Wow, just.... wow.

A lot of good advice there, thought, too recommending improved servers, backups, replication targets and such. Just mixed with absolutely horrible advice.
-
I'm thinking if I didn't care how the final product was I could make a lot of money as a SAN salesman right now.

Want to go into business selling SAM-SDs? I know a forum that has a ton of people recommending SANs right now.

Moment I'm busy everyone goes SAN crazy.
