@scottalanmiller I haven't bought shampoo since last century.

Shampoo can be used on more than just your head . .

As I suspected: restore failed. The error message was curious.

        From: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/filecab/2007/06/22/common-causes-and-solutions-to-backup-system-restore-and-complete-pc-backup-problems/

The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) -- This error is caused by a bug in File Backup where if you don’t back up at least one file during the full backup, every backup after that fails. The workaround is to go through the Backup wizard again and choose a new full file backup at the very end.

Shampoo is just liquid bar soap with some additives and fancy advertising.

Some of those additives are useful, majority is probably better for your hair if you drank it.

@DustinB3403 I've restored individual files from this backup before without a problem, but I was curious to see how the "bare metal" restore would go, and it did as I expected.

And yes, I'm looking into other options. πŸ™‚

Not that I solely condone using "free", I prefer to spend wisely.

@DustinB3403 We (rest of my colleagues) have been slowly gaining ground in teaching the cost of free to others. πŸ˜‰

And then there's "we stole this from microf$$k" so that's close to "free".

Luckily, I don't get encouragement to do that. I'm a stickler for license compliance.

That's a tough one because in some cases, free is expensive. But vendors prey on that. You see this on SW all the time with people claiming free solutions are expensive to support even though they are often cheaper.

Writing 2 guitar solos, got a recording session in an hour... Guitar overdubs and gang vocals. Plus I'm the engineer for the whole album.

Yeah. The point we always try to get a cross is that "free" is an option, but you research more than one vendor for X thing to make sure you needs are met (and other costs are considered).
