This, it seems random as to when it wants to hide.

I still don't have Christmas gifts for my brother and fiance. I have no idea what I'm going to do.

I always do restaurant gift cards or alcohol of some sort.

I have a strict, no giftcard policy. I just think its the least personal gift you can ever give someone

Or most personal... gifts are one of those things that make very little economic sense. People often don't value what you give them as highly as you do, or as much as the item is worth. Gift cards have a static value that is the same for everyone.

I don't see the point of converting a currency you can spend anywhere to a currency you can only spend in a few places max

Hence the visa gift card or straight cash.

Yeah I agree with @coliver, I really don't need another shirt (or whatever else) cash is fine, and I can value it as much as there is on the card and get exactly what I want with it.
No reason to feel ashamed about a gift card, you work hard for your money, to part with it in an obvious fashion like this means you think a lot about the people you're giving your money too.

Newly marrieds (or soon to be) are generally on a budget so they can pay for wedding etc. Or couples with littles etc. I have found that restaurant gift cards are greatly appreciated (I usually do enough for a full meal wherever I get the card for). This gives them an excuse to relax and just spend non-stressful time together. Date nights are a good thing. Add a good bottle of wine for when they get home and voila you got your brother lucky for the night

If you give them cash it get's spent on groceries or something less fun.

The best gift is something the person really wants but would never buy for themselves. That is what I shoot for every year. I built Laura her own PC one year and got her a Chromebook the year before. She uses them every day and loves them.

The issue is we have limited ourselves to $100 for each of us and I've had a lot of trouble finding something I think is great for that.

If the person isn't going to buy it for themselves then they don't value it as highly as you do. That being said I am forced to be hypocritical here. My wife generally has a no gift card rule for immediate friends and family.

Hey guys I really value the Ubiquiti equipment, so if anyone wants to send me some for christmas I'd love it and set it up immediately!

$100 How about a date night (find a show they would like or something like that) or Movie night
One year we did a movie theme for all siblings. I got my sister a popcorn bowl, beer, popcorn with topping stuff, a few great movies that I knew they would like.
Another it was fancy chocolates and wine.

Laura is just super frugal. She lives a very modest lifestyle
