I'm considering getting half a cow. . . The price per pound is $3.95 . . . Not sure if I have enough freeze room. . .
I take delivery on 1/2 a cow this week. Around 65 lbs. But I will can most of it not freeze it.
65 pounds is the total order?
Yes after I had chosen what I wanted to do with it. I chose ground beef, steaks and a few roasts.
I think the whole half was 185 hanging weight. I only wanted to process 65 lbs. These are non antibiotic non processed grain fed Highland cows. Not as big as "normal" around here.
So I guess I am getting more like less than a 1/4. But we wont eat more than that...
Yeah, my wife and I go through a 1/2 cow over two years.
2 years?! How little meat do you eat?
only 1-2 days a week. Figure 1.5 lbs per meal on average. Steak days are more, hamburger days are less. We eat out a lot.
If I had half a cow in my freezer, I'd just chain myself to the grill and stop eating out.

Pretty much. . . maybe I'll buy a freezer on craigslist and then go for the cow, seems like a lot. @Minion-Queen is saying 65 lbs, and others are saying 200+ lbs. . .

It's a good investment assuming you have a chest freezer and a vacuum sealer. And you like to eat beef.

Trying to learn about the pros and cons of the various image formats (qcow2, raw, lvm) available for my kvm hypervisor. @stacksofplates any opinion and/or some benchmarks you can share?
-
Getting caught up on the comments about my GPL question.
-
@DustinB3403 we buy a quarter cow once a year or so.

No, but looks interesting. What have you looked into thus far?

I don't usually use raw images unless I'm just testing something and don't care. Qcow2 is the slowest, but if you preallocate, it gets much faster. You can preallocate the metadata or do a full preallocation. If you do full though, I believe you lose thin provisioning.
I don't have anything currently on volumes. I did for a while, but I don't have anything right now that needs that speed. I definitely go with volumes over raw files. Volumes give you all of the added benefits of LVM (snapshots, thin provisioning, etc).

No, but looks interesting. What have you looked into thus far?
My friend, works for a huge security agency in DC, said they were using it to monitor most of their infrastructure. Haven't really looked at it other then that. Thought someone here may find it interesting.

It would be interesting to know if this can monitor Windows as well.

Generally most tools can monitor Windows (because of the lack of security)

You're only getting 65 lbs of meat from half a cow? Wow, tinny cow, even without growth hormones.

I doubt it. It looks more like application monitoring then anything else.

I am really only taking 1/4ish of it. I do have to pay for the full half however.

Pay for the meat, or processing of it? It sounds like you're getting ripped off if you're paying for half the cow + processing and only getting 1/4 of the cow.

Ah, 130lbs sounds about right after processing, that makes more sense. Wondered if you secretly enjoyed veal for a minute

Reading this thread. Hoping people actually do switch to Linux over this. What actually happens remains to be seen.
