Obviously not enough - Apple is doing that one off thing really well, I don't see anyone advertising the shit out of Mint on their hardware, as an example. that's what I'm talking about.
That's because Mint isn't the leader. ChromeOS and Android are the leaders. See anyone advertising those? I sure do.
-
@Dashrender said in What Are You Doing Right Now:
It would be like HP picking up on Mint and just going to town advertising and selling machines with it. then at the same time hitting up developers to really push them to develop software for Mint.
Exactly. And I see HP ads for that all the time (Linux, not Mint) and my non-technical family buys HP Linux laptops specifically.

Vendors selling Linux products today aren't helping the situation either - they generally just say they support Linux, but they don't say what OS - so what, you're supplying source that you expect me to compile for my flavor of Linux - come on....
What vendor says that?
boxes selling to consumers
But many vendors will do that, offer you the source and compile it in your preferred environment. This doesn't muddy the explanation of what is "Linux" because the people that the sources are being targeted to are people who actually understand the difference.
"Linux compatible" is a really short way of saying "Install-able to a linux distro or family." It's fits well on a package and doesn't need additional clarification.
That's not totally true. There IS a standard Linux API, but even needing a compiler at all means it is not Linux compatible, just potentially compatible.

John Q six pack isn't going to compile anything to run on something. He wants to download a file and it just works! I'm talking about consumers here - not businesses and have been for a while in case that was missed.
But John Six pack isn't the same person who would go out and look for a linux distro to replace windows.
Because and only because users need things that are simple. Downloading an ISO and creating bootable media is to difficult for most people.
So expecting them to be able to figure out what Distro to use is just odd.
So Linux would be a good spot for this user... He can download and use software from a protected application store on almost every Linux distribution. Protecting the user from themselves while being infinitely more functional.

Hard to say. Oneish, I'd guess.

Hope you have a safe trip... Albeit a rather short one for you!
If you ever stop in Rome I'm always around!
There's a nice Coffee shop on the base if you "drink coffee" -

Whoot - Getting functionality back on my desktop that I killed yesterday. It would have up long before now but I fought to get about 8GB of drive space back on the SSD. It's odd that so much would 'vanish' and to be openly honest - it may have been gone for a while and I not know.
It's been about 4 or so months since I last reloaded Win10, and about a month ago I opted to go dual boot with Linux Mint.
Only it didn't want to complete so I skipped it with the plan to speak to @scottalanmiller about it while I was in the NTG-HQ.
Got the OS killed off, and then after several hours of trying to get a LINUX USB drive to build (wouldn't format, wouldn't create, to long to download, my USB drive is at home) I finally got it setup and found.... no other partitions. sigh About 8GB of disk space gone... no longer usable. So my (advertiesed) Corsair FORCELS 120GB drive has 111GB(ish)....
Ah well. Such as the way of life... Moving forward.
Chocolatey run, and off we go.
