What Are You Doing Right Now
-
Checking on systems .. having my coffee (still getting use to it) from my Swag cup (AetherStore) and listening to NPR news.
Pickle Ball? what in the world is that...
weird..
-
Went to the local county fair last night. Ate delicious fair food that is terrible for you. Don't have to go back for another year.
-
Got to go to my first SpiceCorps last night. That was fun; got to meet some previous acquaintances face-to-face for the first time, as well as make some new friends... But man what a day... up at 5am Wednesday morning... go to bed at 12:30am Thursday morning... I was up for 19 hours... That was fun... It doesn't seem to have affected me too much today, though.... If I stop posting, wait 4 hours... and if I'm still not posting... wait 4 more hours, lol.
-
Long and exciting day there So you had fun at the SpiceCorps?
-
Long, yes... Only excitement was a power outage due to Georgia Power having something die right as I was leaving the office, lol. Fortunately, our UPSes and Generators acted accordingly and didn't let out any magic smoke this time.
And the other bit of exceitement was definitely the SpiceCorps group. There were only about 15-20 people there, which was suprising to me, since the Atlanta area is kinda big. Also got to meet a couple of Scale Computing guys face to face for the first time. It was nice to see how far their product has come vs when I got to work with it.
I definitely want to go back, but whew... I may have to take half a day off or something next time, lol. (This was a personal trip, not work trip!)

Did the NodeBB update happen? I'm getting some email notifications from myself instead of the community address.

No, it was too busy all evening.
-
And in other news, it looks like Microsoft is bringing Docker to Windows Server 2016?
http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2015/08/17/containers-docker-windows-and-trends/?MC=WinServer&MC=Virtual&MC=OfficeO365&MC=DevOps&MC=CloudPlatThis should be interesting!

Ok. I logged into my email and its normal. Must be something weird the gmail app on Android is doing. Sometimes I get random exchange services has stopped messages so its probably something with the phone. Never mind!

8:12am and have had to FF crashes already! Each after just one hour of use.

OK, Last night was pretty much a complete waste! Spent an hour on the phone with Sprint trying to get Voicemail notifications to work on a Galaxy S6. Ever since moving from an iPhone 4S to the Galaxy S6, the VM notices have NEVER worked.
Sprint had me re provision the phone, they 'reset' the VM (claimed to reset the password, but the system never asked me for the new password when dialing in manually). After an hour they transferred me to Apple claiming Apple Messaging takes over all VM and Texting and that they (Apple) have to do something to release it. I should mention that Sprint had me log into the iCloud account and remove the phone from the account - but it was already gone from the iCloud account.
Of course then Apple tells me - uh well no, your carrier is wrong. Apple only does stuff with the SMS/MMS, but nothing with VM.
The only thing I could think of next to try was completely resetting the phone - so we made sure it was backed up and did a hard reset of the device (and allowed it to auto reinstall all of the applications).
UG - still no luck!
I gave up for the evening. Now the only thing I can think of doing is hard resetting the phone, not giving it a google account and just try to make phone calls and see if we can get VM notifications to work. Then install one app at a time until we find whatever is causing the problem.

Spent a bit of time talking to Dusty @ Scale Computing today. Can't wait till SpiceWorld!
-
I got to talk with Kevin Greenwood @ Scale for a bit last night. I really like some of the changes they are doing to their system!
-
Looks like NTG will be working with them a lot and we are also going to be reselling as well. We are also getting stuff for the lab. @scottalanmiller , @art_of_shred and @Mike-Ralston are really excited about that.
-
Just ran out of milk here. Have to go walk to the little local store here. It's at least half a mile, maybe more. And there is a LOT of sun out there.
-
@Minion-Queen Can I play too? I haven't got to see their new firmware yet. I know they made some major changes since the last version I saw.
-
I have some plans for all the ML people..... and Scale so we will see what we can do for everyone.

I like their ideas and the hardware looks nice, but I just do not see it ever in the SMB space. SME or maybe the largest side of SMB, but certianly not in most places where I am working.
Shops that I feel can make good use of Scale's stuff generally have an IT staff of their own (for better or worse) and I do not get in those.
-
Their target is actually in the SMB space... For what you get with Scale, you could spend $100k easy on SAN, and 3 or 4 Servers...
The company that I worked with that went to Scale actually saved about 30k over replacing 3 VMware servers, and adding in Flash cache to improve performance withour SAN, and to grow our VMware infrastructure from 3 nodes to 4. Compared to our (entry level?) HP / Left Hand SAN, the Scale cluster is blistering fast.
Plus if you get 3 servers, and decide you need more computing power, just add another node -- and you get extra storage too... If you really only need storage, they make nodes for just that.
I tend to get relatively excited when talking about them, lol. We had such a good experience with them and all.

I know it is their target market, but I just do not see it being useful at any of my existing clients.

I have never had a bad interaction with them either.
