About time. Having that phone limping along has done nothing for Microsoft's fortunes, nor has it helped the mobile industry.

I'm hoping to get a secondary Android this year, as a second phone I think that it would be ideal for me. I'm considering the Asus ZenFone Go and the ZenPhone 3 Zoom. The dual SIM card thing is a huge factor for me. As is the crazy long battery life.

    Is this the apocalypse ?

    Something like that.

Some of the WP10 updates broke things. There was one that left me unable to use any Hotmail contacts for about 7 weeks. They disappeared after one update, then a bit later came back wouldn't open and I couldn't use them to text/call/email people. Another seemed to lower battery life to less than a day.
Since late summer though there have been no problems I have noticed.

That doesn't instil faith in their abilities.

He's talking about during the beta. I haven't heard of these issue since the RTM of Windows 10 Mobile.

Well, I didn't find anything convincing in the way of holding off.

You don't need a third party store. If you're dumb enough you can just go to the internet and download the first apk you find and install it.

I'm not sure what you're driving at? Of course you can - so? it still requires checking the box to allow third party things to be installed.

I guess I'm confused what your point was here

Just wondering, why did you mention side loading required checking the box, but not installing a third party store?

You mentioned that you don't need a third party store, that if someone was dumb enough they could just download an APK and install it.

I specifically mentioned side-loading, so I wasn't sure what you were driving at? What makes side loading any dumber than installing a third party store?

Ah that's what I didn't get. When I read it I thought you were saying you needed a third party app store after you checked the box. I just misunderstood your statement.

But why is Windows phone failing today? It is because the OS sucks - NO - anyone why uses it with a real open mind will see that it's just as usable any Android or iOS -

I put it in between. More usable than Android and less usable than iOS. However, for a new entrant into the market, it has to shine, and that it did not, at all. It lacks the open ecosystem that Android uses as the excuse for being functionally problematic and it lacks the tight integration that makes iOS work. It's trying to fill a pointless middle ground that doesn't exist. Then, of course, it botched that middle ground terribly and that's another issue. But even executed well, I don't see it having a purpose, a goal.

And Remix OS is AMD64 only, it won't run on the ARM processors in phones.

Well you definitely use your phone more than I do.. Selfies - yeah just kill me. I've taken I think 10 in my life.

Sure the processor is faster, but if you can't tell any difference in app performance who cares? and it's probably just eating your battery faster.

Clearly the camera is better with more options, assuming those things are important to you. I didn't use to care about it.. but after having the crappy camera in the 635, yeah, I care at least a little.. and the 640XL is much better than the 635.

Screen size is a personal thing, not really advantageous or not.

How long does your battery last?

I'm pretty sure my 640XL is the LTE, internet is pretty damned fast on it - to the point that I almost never join an open hotspot because they are WAY slower than my data plan.

@scottalanmiller well, I thought I was part of the update as a_5mith tested a different theme. Forgetting that he(/she/it?) has access to more than one instance, I thought that it was a setting in the user profile. (I have also seen user selectable themes on other boards.)

Hey buddy. Yeah the lavender shot was from my own forum. Changing themes isn't possible through NodeBB yet, it was mentioned earlier on by me. But I ended up doing style changes in css rather than creating a whole new theme. 👍

What app store are you looking in? https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store

The one on the phone. Worst feature of the phone. You search for a common app that you want and you get scores of results of malware, all with the exact name of the product and/or company that you were looking for.

I've never had that happen. and I've had a few different windows phones.

We had a few. But there is only one store. It was very much a "CloudatCost" level of service. Looked good till you actually search for an app then realized you had no assurance of which one was real. It made me appreciate the lock down of the iOS system that someone was vetting the vendors and at least attempting to ensure that products weren't trying to trick you.

Biggest ones were things like the Chrome browser. Search for it and it didn't exist, but hundreds of things called that did.

I highly suspect that Apple has been working on something secretly.

Have you seen anything that would indicate this? Based on Apple's post Steve Jobs' record they haven't innovated much in quite some time. I don't think they have ever officially acknowledged that anyone would want a keyboard for working on an iPad. I'm not trying to be critical, but a solution like this doesn't fit with the Apple I know and support.

It seems like I remember reading some things about OS X having touch screen support built in a couple of years ago, but I can't seem to find it now. Maybe it was a dream, lol. A cursory google shows up somebody with a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeHFRpj_zC8) of the Yosemite beta with a Lenovo touch screen.

I fully expect to see "OS X" go away, and IOS become the next Apple OS... If they pull it off right, it will be like what Microsoft is trying to do with Continuum.

Well the ICON is light years ahead in hardware specs, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

I honestly could keep my Icon another 2 years or so...it is THAT good (speed and stable wise)...I totally love the phone...I don't think Verizon will pass on the next Flagship Windows Phone (excuse me, Windows for Phone, or however we may refer to it)...but if they do, I'm good with the Icon...the camera is amazing...

Now that I have FB sync'ed and my O365, I'm getting tons of notifications - I'll have to figure out how to disable them. I'd like it if the mail icon indicated that I have new messages, and maybe the same with FB, but I don't want a list of those notifications when I pull the top down.
