@black3dynamite said in Converting VMware VMs to KVM: I haven't been keeping up with Windows Admin Center for awhile. Was that an option to manage Hyper-V? It will be, but I'm not sure that it is yet. We've tried and not been able to get it working even internally anywhere, let alone externally. Once they figure out stability and authentication, I assume that it will be great for that. Being that this is 2016, it's going to suck hard. And if there is a Hyper-V issue, WAC would be down which is a problem in a small environment like this.

if you are upgrading I highly recommend www.runecast.com, if you have a small environment it's not a big deal but Vmware now days has a lot more bugs that it used to and it's easy to run up on one in a bigger environment, runecast will check for compatbility with specific hardware and firmware versions and tell you which firmware, version of Vmware and patch versions you should be on to be the most stable.

It seemed like someone on the VMware forums had a similar issue, yet it wasn't resolved. https://communities.vmware.com/thread/574921 I can just suggest the most common solution of "reconfigure it and see if that helps".

See now I want to purchase more lab equipment to test this. . . .

I've tried to import the Multi-Tenant Director .ova into XS & convert the .ova into vhd & vhdx. It will not boot in XS or Hyper-V, I get a black screen. It boots in vmWare Workstation. Nakivo support says the .ova is ONLY for use in vmWare (not for XS)

Not sure, and I'm not going to power up the old system to find out. New one is running fine. If I ever run in to a situation like that again, there are a lot more checks I would do.

@whizzard said in Adventures in Graceful VM Shutdown: How does the licensing work with multiple UPS? The answer is...it depends. If you want OpMonis to monitor multiple UPS devices and shutdown things gracefully, it can do that using a single license but will only allow one shutdown list and would begin shutting down things as soon as your predefined threshold is hit for any one of the monitored UPS devices. The other option is to get a second license of OpMonis to monitor the second UPS and have a dedicated shutdown list just for that UPS and its connected equipment.

@KOOLER said in The SMB Two Server Dilema, What to Do: @whizzard said in The SMB Two Server Dilema, What to Do: In scenarios such as these what would be the recommended backup approach: DAS, NAS, Backup Appliance, lower end server, removable disk storage, tapes (intentionally left out cloud)? Should be separate (physically!) entity non-related to your production cluster. Cheap NAS is OK. For the average scenario (and I really just mean average) it's Synology or ReadyNAS that I recommend. Easy, supported, cost effective, desktop or rackmount options, well known, good brands, nice features.

I'd say you moved between products. It's one product family, they are super similar, but are they the same product? Just semantics, but they are very different. XO Community and XOA are not the same product. But it's the same code.

@LAH3385 might be good to start a thread and try to determine what your needs are before going down the path of technology. By the time you were asking this question, you were already in pretty deep assuming certain products, product categories and platform HA. We should start with a business needs analysis, use that to set goals and then use the goals to select technology approaches.

@thecreativeone91 said: XenServer supports SD Card installs. Not sure about Xen XS is just a packaging of Xen. So anything XS supports, Xen has to have supported. IOPS are the biggest concern really. But without anything like a database which really needs them, RAID 6 might be more than enough. Exchange wouldn't be a big concern as it is not IOPS heavy. RAID 10 is far better tuned for heavy writes, but if reads are the vast majority, RAID 6 will keep right up.
