nah - really more like early 2000's, but man I sure thought so - I guess they held on because they were some sort of advertising company.

AOL was solid well into the mid 00's

It was around 2004 when I worked for the fed and they were using it for communicating in the senate.

The US really needs this competition. They say that the latency is low on 5G with 2-4ms, but the FCC claims Verizon FiOS is 10ms. But as a FiOS user, I can tell you, it's definitely 2-4ms all the time.

I already cut it down a bit going to the new unlimited data plan saved about $100 a month so far (my bill is still too much).

Verizon closing down a number of call centers... as if their customer service wasn't already terrible enough. One of the call centers is apparently in Rochester, NY. You're job market just got even worse 😞

They will probably open a new one. In Romania. Or even worse, in Egypt. Seen that before 😞

Romania is way more technical than Rochester 🙂

This is true. Had a Romanian guy try to install some remote control software on my family's computers back in the mid 90s. Software was in Romanian. That was the last time I let anybody near a computer that was mine and left hem alone, unsupervised.

Actually it's an entirely different field. Like McDonald's opening up a flower shop. ISP and hosting service are not related.

For testing to prove the issue, this should be simple. Just get a second phone and forward the number as you say. Also make calls on the original phone to capture whatever Verizon wants.

Having the services isn't worth money. They need customers for that to be worth something.
