I checked few power supplies in office pcs, every single one accepts 100-240VAC 50-60Hz input. So they will work anywhere. I haven't seen one in years that would be limited to 110 or 230 (or others) only.

      Nice, thanks!

But how did you determine that? I just looked at my servers and their specs only match server class Xeon processors (Skylake 16MB L3) so not sure how it is possible for them to be consumer.

I don't remember exactly. A couple of years ago you could determine that there was actually no xeon of that architecture that would fit with the GHz. Since they are obscuring the actual CPU in their linux kernel you can't read the model number outright. I going from memory here, but that was the gist of it.

Would this work for you? Much smaller, and still POE - just need to set the port to 48v

They should put solar power on glaciers! Someone call Argentina, Chile, and Greenland. This is a huge opportunity!

The issue with glaciers is that they can be treacherous, difficult to work on and vastly unstable.

Man made reservoirs on the other hand would be level and easily accessed.

Just putting solar production on every reservoir in the US would offset a lot of coal power.

Sadly you can't just put solar on every reservoir in the US.... There is the entire pleasure craft industry... as well as fishing both for food and sport...

You can still put solar on these reservoirs. You don't have to fill the entire reservoir with solar, although that might be ideal.

True, even just a little coverage helps a little.

It uses usb for power, and esata for data.

      Nice.. find, thanks.

notice it says SSD, not even 2.5 in drives.

You can buy standard USB enclosures for 2.5" drives and they never need external power.

when I posted that it I was responding to the title of the sale indicating SSD - so I jumped the gun a bit on the 2.5.. my bad.

It would not be unlikely for the power of this workstation to be comparable to more than the processing capabilities of a fully populated Proliant DL580 quad CPU Xeon server.

That's one of 4 reports it gives us. I hate to toot their horn for free but they're a pretty skookum unit. We also have a temp/humid sensor additionally attached so in the screen cap below thats the internal temp and we put the other sensor on the top of the rack so we get room temp worst case

Good point. I don't particularly doubt that it is there, just don't want to count unhatched chickens, you know? HP used to sell Proliants with the built in virtualization disabled via BIOS. Not that IBM would pull that, but without knowing that the feature is there for sure, it's something to look into.

Migrated the VMs off of this box so that I could work on it without affecting anyone else. Came in yesterday to work on it. Powered it down and installed the NIC daughter board without removing power to the system. Miraculously, it's now working as expected. 😕 👍

I contacted Samsung and they feel that its the cable or the charger. I dont feel that it is since I get same results with other chargers and cables, but they are telling me to bring my phone in to my local wireless store.

huh? they aren't just going to send you a replacement?

I was told they dont send out replacement chargers or cables. They only service phones.

Wow, that would be like Dell telling me that they won't replace my power cord while I still have a valid warranty. Even the batteries are normally covered for the first year by the warranties.

Sounds like another reason to bail on Samsung.

I like the idea of power generating shows. You could utilise the power from the audience applause to power the performers' amplifiers. If the audience doesn't clap loud enough the show can't continue.

There are lots of vendors out there that will slice you a partition on a larger iSeries or even give you a blade and shared storage, even IBM will do it. It was one of my DR solutions for my last job, ship tapes to Rochester and load a slice up.

For xSeries, don't know. AIX is also a different beast and doesn't do the same thing that OS/400 does for partitioning.
