$100K gross is around $80K in a W2 return. Self employment knocks up about $20K in self taxes, be it FICA or income. Federal, ignoring state for the moment.

So yes, your CPA sucks. Even using the standard schedules and layout wouldn't get you that. F(***), even I could do better than that.

Did anyone mention to you that those fun deductions for your health payments? Or your mileage? Or even your home office? Jesus, it's not like he's even trying.

Are mistaking AGI and taxable income? My taxable is much lower, in the range you are mentioning.
